ENVE Composites G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim
The ENVE G23 is the gravel rim ENVE built after watching its road rims get ridden on gravel and its mountain rims get ridden on road. It is a 700c carbon rim with a 23mm inner width, 31.5mm outer, 25mm deep and about 330 grams, molded in Ogden, Utah, with a hookless bead that is wide and blunted so a rim strike squeezes the tire rather than cutting it. the company says the G23 tests close to its M-Series cross-country rims for toughness, and that matches what we see: it is a light rim that does not come back bent.
This page covers the ENVE Composites G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim. The G23 is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The factory molds the G23 with its patented molded spoke holes, so no hole is drilled through the carbon; the fibers run around the hole and the rim keeps its strength at the spoke bed. The bead wall is the widest ENVE has made on a road-size rim, with a blunt profile designed to protect the tire against pinch flats on rock strikes, and it is hookless, which means tubeless-ready tires only and a maximum pressure printed on the rim. The 23mm inner width is tuned for 35 to 45mm gravel tires, and the shallow 25mm depth keeps the weight down and the ride compliant.
External nipples with ENVE's locking design, standard J-bend spokes, disc only.
How it rides
A G23 wheel is light, quick and forgiving. The shallow section gives a little vertically, which on washboard and rough dirt is what keeps your hands from going numb, and the wide bead wall lets you run a 40mm tire soft without worrying about the rim. It accelerates like a road wheel and it is a favorite for gravel racing for that reason.
For 650b bikes and wider tires there is the G27; the G23 is the 700c rim for 35 to 45mm tires.

This version
This version is the G23 in 29in, drilled 24h, about 329g, 23mm inside, 25mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.
This is the disc-brake G23: plain sidewalls, no brake track to wear, a touch lighter. It fits any disc-brake bike and it is the version most of our customers now build; the rim-brake version is a separate listing.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The ENVE Composites G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim comes in the drillings listed on this page. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the G23 on the brand's own hubs, Chris King R45, DT Swiss 240 and 180, Industry Nine 1/1 and SOLiX, White Industries CLD and Hope RS4 hubs, usually with Sapim CX-Ray or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Aerolite, and brass or alloy nipples.
Tire range on the G23 is 35 to 45mm, tubeless-ready tires only. The configurator recommends spoke count and lacing from your bike type and weight.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for gravel and road disc, mountain bike and MTB single-speed builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the ENVE Composites G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
How ENVE Composites tests its rims
ENVE makes and tests its rims in Ogden, Utah. For mountain rims it runs three drop tests, each dropping a calibrated weight onto a wheel with an inflated tire. Test 1 (since 2007) strikes both rim walls and is raised until first visible damage; ENVE requires 10 in for XC, 12 in for trail and 14 in for gravity rims. Test 2 (since 2014) strikes one rim wall to mimic pinch-flat hits, requiring 5 in (XC), 6 in (trail), 8 in (gravity) and 10 in (DH race). Test 3 (since 2021) rotates the wheel between hits so every spoke hole is struck, 100-plus impacts per rim. ENVE states the 2024 M6 improved 47% over the M630 and the M8 21% over the M730.
For hookless road rims ENVE states it has run over 1,000 tire tests in eight years. ISO 4210 requires a tire to hold 110% of its maximum pressure for five minutes (5 bar/72.5 psi for a 28 mm tire); ENVE approves a 28 mm tire only if it holds 120 psi, 165% of the ETRTO/ISO maximum.

Everything in this section is published by ENVE Composites. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the rim reaches us as the maker ships it.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
ENVE makes the G23 in Ogden, Utah; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer, and the factory warranty rides with the rim. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Warranty
ENVE Composites's warranty. ENVE gives the original owner a five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, alongside its Lifetime Incident Protection program, which covers rims, forks, bars, stems, seatposts and hubs damaged in riding incidents.
ProWheelBuilder. Any wheel we build on this part carries ProWheelBuilder's one-year warranty in addition to the manufacturer's. Broken spokes are replaced for a year whatever the cause, and all wheel-side labor is included - truing, re-tensioning, rebuilding. Where the maker covers a failed rim or hub we handle that claim for you; where they decline, an eligible replacement comes at 25% off current retail. The customer covers shipping in both directions. Components supplied by the customer are not covered.

G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim questions
What tire width suits this rim?
23mm inside is the all-road and gravel width. Think 32 to 45mm tires: wide enough to support a gravel casing properly so it holds its shape at low pressure, narrow enough that a 30mm road tire still sits right if you swap wheels between bikes.
What does hookless mean for the G23?
Use tubeless-ready tires and stay under the maximum pressure printed on the rim; for a 40mm gravel tire that is well above what you would run anyway.
G23 or G27?
G23 is 700c for 35 to 45mm tires; G27 is 650b for 50 to 57mm tires. Pick by wheel size and the tires you run.
Is the G23 tough enough for rough gravel?
Yes. ENVE says it tests close to its cross-country mountain rims, and the wide blunted bead is designed to resist pinch flats on rock strikes.
Is the G23 made in the USA?
Yes. ENVE molds its rims in Ogden, Utah.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the ENVE Composites G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim?
No. The rim is made by ENVE Composites; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.
Is it tubeless-ready?
Yes. ENVE Composites lists the G23 Gravel Disc Clincher Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
