Nox Composites Teocalli Rim

The Nox Composites Teocalli is the all-rounder in Nox's mountain range from Knoxville, Tennessee: wider than the Skyline cross-country rim and lighter than the Farlow trail rim, with a hookless bead sized for 2.25 to 2.4in tires and an asymmetric spoke bed for even tension. It is the rim for down-country and light trail bikes, and for cross-country riders who want a little more tire than a race rim allows.

This page covers the Nox Composites Teocalli Rim in 29in, 27.5in. The Teocalli is built to order here. Choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator; the wheel leaves Georgia laced, tensioned and trued.

Design and construction

The Teocalli is a shallow carbon rim with a mid-width inner bed, a hookless bead that seats tubeless tires with a floor pump, and an offset spoke bed that balances drive-side and non-drive-side tension on a Boost rear. The layup sits between the Skyline and the Farlow: reinforced at the bead and spoke bed for trail use without the weight of the Farlow's enduro-ready section. External nipples, standard J-bend spokes, disc only, lifetime warranty on the rim.

One thing to know about buying a Knoxville rim bare rather than in a factory wheelset is that you choose the hub, the spokes and the spoke count, and the rim is happy with all of it. The company publishes tension limits and offset figures for every rim, which is more than most carbon brands do, and the rims arrive with the nipple washers they need. We build them to those numbers.

How it rides

A Teocalli wheel is the light trail wheel most riders actually need: quick to accelerate, stiff enough to corner hard, and wide enough that a 2.35in tire grips at sensible pressure. It is the rim we suggest for down-country bikes and for cross-country riders who ride real trails between races.

For racing the Skyline is lighter; for hard trail riding the Farlow is tougher. For everything in between, the Teocalli is the rim we recommend.

Which version this is

What this listing covers: the Teocalli in 29in, 27.5in with 28h, 32h drilling, about 385g, 26mm inside, 22mm deep, disc. If you need it in another size or for the other brake type, it is listed separately.

The disc version of the Teocalli has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Nox Composites Teocalli Rim comes in 29in, 27.5in and 28h, 32h drilling. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the Teocalli on Industry Nine Hydra 2, SOLiX and 1/1, DT Swiss 350, 240 and 180, Hope Pro 5 and Chris King MTB hubs, usually with Sapim D-Light, Race or CX-Ray spokes or DT Competition, and brass or alloy nipples.

Tire range on the Teocalli is 2.25 to 2.4in, tubeless-ready tires only on the hookless bead. Tell the configurator your bike type and weight and it suggests a spoke count and lacing pattern to suit.

Build a wheel around it

Offered for mountain bike, MTB single-speed and fat bike builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Nox Composites Teocalli Rim and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.

Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.

Nox Composites's testing and certifications

Nox Composites is based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Nox states that its products are designed and tested there, that the rims are produced by a partner manufacturer in Asia using Nox's molds and layup schedule, and that the carbon is Toray fiber from Japan; wheels are handbuilt in Tennessee. Nox states that "manufacturing and quality control is held to extremely high standards including regular destructive and nondestructive testing." The one published figure is spoke pull-through strength, which Nox states is "somewhere north of 880 Lbf." Nox publishes no impact-joule or fatigue-cycle figures and cites no ISO or UCI protocol.

Warranty: Nox's website states its wheels and rims are guaranteed free from defects in materials or workmanship for as long as the original owner owns them, non-transferable, with proof of purchase and rim serial number required; older printed instructions state a 2-year term. A rock-strike policy covers rim replacement for the first two years, judged by Nox engineers, and a lifetime crash replacement program offers a reduced-price rim or rebuild to the original owner.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Nox makes the Teocalli; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.

The configurator shows only hubs and spokes that match the Teocalli drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Nox Composites warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nox Composites and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Teocalli Rim questions

What tire width suits this rim?

At 26mm inside this is a trail width, sized around 2.1 to 2.4in tires. That is wide enough to stop a modern trail casing rolling under you in a corner without pushing the tread so flat that it wears down the middle.

Skyline, Teocalli or Farlow?

Skyline for cross-country racing on 2.0 to 2.25in tires; Teocalli for down-country and light trail on 2.25 to 2.4in; Farlow for trail and all-mountain on 2.3 to 2.5in.

Is the Teocalli hookless?

Yes. Use tubeless-ready tires and stay under the maximum pressure printed on the rim.

What does the asymmetric spoke bed do?

It moves the spoke holes toward the non-drive side, which evens out spoke tension on a Boost rear wheel so the wheel stays true longer.

What tires fit the Teocalli?

2.25 to 2.4in. A 2.35in tire is the pairing most of our customers run.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nox Composites Teocalli Rim?

No. The rim is made by Nox Composites; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.

Is it tubeless-ready?

Yes. Nox Composites lists the Teocalli Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
