Velo Orange Front ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub

It comes in 32 and 36 hole and it matches Velo Orange's rims and the rest of its range. This page covers the Velo Orange Front ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub.

The Velo Orange hub is the hub for Voyager and Enterprise wheels, and it is sold here only inside a wheel we build. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.

Design and construction

The disc version adds a 6-bolt rotor mount and ships with end caps for 135mm quick release and 142 x 12mm thru-axle. Flanges are J-bend in 32 and 36 hole.

A front hub is a bearing carrier with flanges, and that is the whole job of the front Velo Orange hub: two sealed bearings on a stiff axle, end caps for your fork's standard, and flanges spaced to give the spokes a good bracing angle on the rotor side. There is nothing to engage and nothing to swap. Everything written about freehubs and engagement applies to the rear hub only; what you get up front is the same shell quality and the same seals without any of the moving parts.

How it rides

It suits touring, randonneur, commuting and classic road wheels, and its polished finish matches a Voyager or Enterprise rim for a wheel that looks like a set. For a lifetime hub the Phil Wood or White Industries is the step up; for a good-looking, reliable hub at a fair price, the Velo Orange is the one we recommend.

A front wheel is where you feel a hub least and a build most. With no drive torque to carry, the front Velo Orange hub can be laced two-cross or even radial on the non-rotor side on a rim-brake bike, which makes a lighter, more direct-feeling wheel; on a disc bike we lace both sides crossed so the rotor's braking torque has spokes to pull against. Either way the front wheel is the one that steers, and a stiff, true front wheel is most of what makes a bike feel precise.

This version

This version is the 6-bolt hub in QR 5x100mm, Thru Axle 12x100mm, Thru Axle 15x100mm, drilled for 32h, 36h, about 260g, in black, silver. Those are the only things that differ between the versions of the Velo Orange hub; the shell, bearings and seals are the same.

This is the 6-bolt Velo Orange hub: the rotor bolts to a flange with six T25 bolts, which is the mount most mountain and gravel rotors still use and the easiest to find a rotor for on the road. If you run centerlock rotors, choose the centerlock version of the same hub instead.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Velo Orange Front ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page with the axle and brake options shown in the configurator. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most Velo Orange hub wheels with DT Champion or Competition and Sapim Race spokes and brass nipples.

It pairs naturally with the Velo Orange Voyager and Enterprise, H Plus Son TB14 and Archetype, Velocity Dyad and Chukker and Mavic A319 rims. Pick touring, randonneur or road as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.

How Velo Orange tests its hubs

Velo Orange hubs are made by a partner factory in Taiwan that Velo Orange has visited and documented. Spoke holes "are actually punched rather than drilled", leaving a chamfer Velo Orange states is "best for J-bend spokes to prevent creating a stress riser at the elbow". On quality control it states: "Every hub is tested for smoothness and play before packaging—every single one." No impact, fatigue or ISO figures are published.

All Velo Orange hubs use sealed cartridge bearings. The Chronos range uses "high-flange architecture, which allows for large sealed cartridge bearings", 58mm flanges, 6-bolt rotor mounts and replaceable endcaps swapped without tools; the Chronos front disc hub is 155g and covers 100mm QR, 12x100 and 15x100. Velo Orange states "Defective parts/accessories can be exchanged for one year from purchase date", for the original buyer with proof of purchase. No rider weight limit is published.

Everything in this section is published by Velo Orange. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the hub reaches us as the maker ships it.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Velo Orange makes the hub; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.

The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Velo Orange warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Velo Orange and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Front ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.

Is there a disc version?

Yes, a 6-bolt disc rear in 135mm quick release or 142 x 12mm thru-axle with the included end caps, and a disc front.

Polished or black Velo Orange hub?

Both; polished matches the Voyager and Enterprise rims.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Velo Orange Front ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub?

No. The hub is made by Velo Orange; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

QR 5x100mm Front or Thru Axle 12x100mm Front or Thru Axle 15x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Does it need special spokes?

No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
