Velocity Dually Rim
The Velocity Dually is the plus-tire rim: 39mm between the beads, tubeless-ready and built for the 2.8 to 3.25in tires that plus bikes and semi-fat bikes run. The Dually gives a 3.0in tire the wide, flat footprint that makes plus riding work, at a weight that does not turn the bike into a fat bike. Velocity extrudes and finishes it in the USA in a range of colors.
This page covers the Velocity Dually Rim in 29in, 27.5in, 26in, 20in. The Dually is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The Dually is a welded single-wall aluminum rim with a low profile and a 39mm inner width, tubeless-ready with a bead that seats plus tires with a floor pump. Single-wall construction is what keeps a 45mm rim light: the nipples sit in the tire bed under the tape, with reinforced spoke holes, so there is no hollow box section adding weight. The profile is stiff enough for trail riding on a plus bike.
The factory recommends 110 to 130 kgf spoke tension. The Dually is disc only and builds with 28 or 32 spokes.
Every Velocity rim is extruded, drilled and finished at the company's own factory in Jacksonville, Florida, and that shows in the details a builder notices: the spoke holes are drilled to suit the wheel, the joint is clean, and the ERD we measure matches the one on the box. The color range is the other reason people ask for the brand by name; anodized and powder-coated options come and go, and the ones in stock are listed in the configurator so you can match rim, hub and nipples.
How it rides
A Dually wheel is what makes a plus bike float. A 3.0in tire on a 39mm bed at 12 to 15 psi has an enormous contact patch, grips on loose climbs and soaks up trail chatter, and the low-profile rim keeps the wheel light enough to accelerate. On a 27.5+ hardtail or a 29+ bikepacking rig it is the rim we build first.
For 2.4 to 2.8in tires the Blunt 35 or Blunt SS is the better bed; for true fat-bike tires over 3.8in Velocity does not make a rim and we use other brands.

This version
This version is the Dually in 29in, 27.5in, 26in, 20in, drilled 28h, 32h, 36h, about 675g, 39mm inside, 18mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.
This is the disc-brake Dually: plain sidewalls, no brake track to wear, a touch lighter. It fits any disc-brake bike and it is the version most of our customers now build; the rim-brake version is a separate listing.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Velocity Dually Rim comes in 29in, 27.5in, 26in, 20in and 28h, 32h, 36h drilling. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the Dually on Velocity Race and Standard ATB hubs in Boost spacing, DT Swiss 350, Hope Pro 5, Industry Nine 1/1 and Hydra and Bitex BX 211 hubs, usually with Sapim Race or D-Light or DT Competition spokes and brass nipples.
Tire range on the Dually is 2.8 to 3.25in. Pick plus or bikepacking as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.
Build it into a wheel
This rim is live in our Custom Wheel Program for mountain bike, MTB single-speed and fat bike builds. Start a build with the Velocity Dually Rim and the configurator opens with this exact rim pinned at the top of the Velocity list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
How Velocity tests its rims
Velocity USA rolls, drills, anodizes and builds its aluminum rims at its own factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Velocity states the extrusion comes from Profile Precision Extrusions in Arizona. Production moved there from Jacksonville, Florida beginning December 2016. Rims are sleeve-joined: a piece of extrusion shaped to the rim's inner cavity is bonded in and the join heat-treated to set the bonding agent, then the rim is drilled, cleaned of swarf and anodized in Velocity's own tanks. Spoke holes are drilled at an exit angle of around 4 degrees, alternating flange bias at every other hole.
Velocity publishes no impact-energy, fatigue-cycle, ISO 4210 or third-party lab figures and no per-rim maximum tire pressure; its tubeless guidance uses 45 psi (3.1 bar) as the threshold between one and two layers of Velotape. Warranty: all Velocity products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, excluding normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly or maintenance; repair or replacement is at Velocity's discretion.

Velocity publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the rim into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Velocity USA makes the Dually; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Warranty
Velocity's warranty. Velocity warrants its rims against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, repairing or replacing at its option. Normal wear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly and poor maintenance are excluded.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

Dually Rim questions
What tire width suits this rim?
At 39mm inside this is a plus or fat width, for tires from about 2.6in upward. Running a narrow tire on a rim this wide leaves the casing stretched and vague, so match it to the tire it was designed around.
Is the Dually tubeless?
Yes. It is tubeless-ready and, being single-wall, very easy to tape; Velocity tape and a valve are fitted on request.
What tires fit the Dually?
2.8 to 3.25in plus tires. A 3.0in tire is the usual pairing.
Dually or Blunt 35?
Dually for 2.8in and wider plus tires; Blunt 35 for 2.4 to 2.8in trail tires.
Is the Dually strong enough for trail riding?
For plus-bike trail riding, yes. It is not an enduro rim; the big tire does most of the impact absorption.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Velocity Dually Rim?
We are not. Velocity manufactures the rim; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.
Is it tubeless-ready?
Yes. Velocity lists the Dually Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
