Bitex BX 106 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub

The Bitex BX 106 is a light centerlock disc hub aimed squarely at road and gravel bikes. The BX 106 is the hub we build when a customer wants a disc road wheel that comes in under the weight of a factory wheelset without spending boutique money on the hub. Bitex makes hubs for many wheel brands, and the BX 106 is a refined version of a design that has been in production for years.

The Bitex BX 106 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub has a machined aluminum hubshell, sealed cartridge bearings and, on the rear, a multi-pawl freehub with a light action and quick pickup. The BX 106 is quiet, it is easy to service, and it has been dependable in the wheels we have built on it.

We sell the Bitex BX 106 only inside a wheel we build. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the BX 106 wheel ships from Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.

Design and construction

Bitex machines the BX 106 shell to a low-flange road profile with conventional J-bend spoke holes, keeping the weight down without narrowing the flange spacing that a stiff disc wheel needs. Bearings are sealed cartridge units; the rear freehub runs on pawls against a machined ring and swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XDR and Micro Spline bodies. Rotors mount by centerlock, and end caps convert the BX 106 between 12mm thru-axle and quick-release standards.

The BX 106 is the road-oriented member of the Bitex disc range; the BX 211 and BX 212 are the mountain-bike hubs with wider flanges and a heavier freehub.

How it rides

On the road the Bitex BX 106 rolls smoothly and coasts quietly. Engagement is quick enough for cyclocross starts and gravel climbs. The BX 106 is light enough that a wheel on an alloy rim such as the DT Swiss R 470 or Velocity Aileron comes in well under most stock disc wheels, and the money saved on the hub tends to end up in a better rim or spokes.

The BX 106 is a road and gravel hub, not a trail hub. For mountain biking look at the Bitex BX 211 or BX 212.

About this listing

What sets this listing apart from the other BX 106 versions: centerlock rotor mount, QR 5x135mm, Thru Axle 12x142mm, 24h, 28h, 32h drilling, about 245g, in black, blue, lime green, red, silver. Pick the one that matches your frame and rotor and the rest of the hub is identical.

This is the centerlock BX 106: the rotor sits on a spline and a lockring holds it, which saves weight over six bolts and makes swapping rotors a one-tool job. If your rotors are 6-bolt, a centerlock adapter fits them, or choose the 6-bolt version of the same hub.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Bitex BX 106 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub comes in the drillings on this page with the axle and driver options shown in the configurator. The BX 106 takes J-bend spokes only; Sapim Race, Laser or CX-Ray and Competition or Aerolite are the spokes we use most on a BX 106.

Rim pairings for the Bitex BX 106: DT Swiss R 470 and RR 421, HED Belgium, Velocity Aileron and Quill, Boyd Altamont, and the carbon road rims in the catalog. The configurator recommends a spoke count from your bike type and weight and only shows rims that match the BX 106 drilling you choose.

Testing, standards and warranty at Bitex

Bitex Industrial Co., Ltd. is a hub manufacturer in Taichung, Taiwan. Its 2023 catalog is titled "HUB FACTORY / MADE IN TAIWAN" and marks "100 Years 1923 ~ 2023", tracing the business from the Valisum Bike Shop (1923) to its renaming as Bitex Industrial Co., Ltd.. Bitex states its hubs use aluminum shells (the BX305 road hubs are listed as "Aluminum 7075"), and each catalog page lists the exact cartridge bearings fitted, for example "2 (6803*2)" in a gravel front hub and "4 (Hub 6902*2 / Freehub 6802+6902)" in the matching rear. Bitex's UK distributor states standard fitment is TPI bearings with an orange contact seal outboard and a black non-contact seal inboard.

Bitex states the six-pawl freehub uses "Two sets of three pawls - six in total" for a "reduction in distance between points of engagement by 50%", giving 54HD (27T) engagement on MTB bodies and 48HD (24T) on road bodies. The Anti-Bite System adds "three small, hardened stainless splines" to alloy Shimano bodies to stop cassette gouging. Catalog freehub weights run 65g to 80g (±5g) for aluminum Shimano 11s bodies, 106g to 111g for titanium and 127g to 160g for steel; e-bike rears such as the BX215R use steel freehub bodies and 6903-size shell bearings.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Bitex manufactures the BX 106 in Taiwan; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. We build the Bitex BX 106 into wheels to your spec, cutting spokes from the measured ERD of the rim, tensioning in stages and truing to a tight tolerance before shipping.

Only compatible hubs and spokes appear in the configurator, impossible combinations are struck through rather than hidden, and the price is live.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Bitex warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Bitex and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

BX 106 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.

Is the BX 106 a road or gravel hub?

Both. The Bitex BX 106 is a light centerlock disc hub in road and gravel axle standards, happy under 25 to 45mm tires.

Which freehub bodies fit the BX 106?

Shimano HG 11-speed, SRAM XDR and Shimano Micro Spline, listed in the configurator for the rear BX 106.

How does the BX 106 compare with a DT Swiss 350?

The 350 has the DT Ratchet System and a long service record at a higher price and weight; the Bitex BX 106 is lighter and cheaper with a good pawl freehub.

Can I use the BX 106 with rim brakes?

No, the BX 106 is a disc-only hub. The Bitex RAF and RAR hubs are the rim-brake road versions.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

QR 5x135mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x142mm Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Does it need special spokes?

No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
