DT Swiss 240 2020 + Straight Pull Front Black Centerlock Disc Hub

The DT Swiss 240 Straight Pull Front Centerlock Disc Hub is the lightest way into the 240 family on a disc front wheel: an aluminum shell with straight-pull flanges, sealed steel cartridge bearings and a Centerlock rotor mount, at 104 grams in its 24-hole road version. DT makes it in two forms and this listing carries both, chosen by the axle: 12x100 for road and gravel forks, drilled 24, and 15x110 Boost for mountain bike forks, drilled 28 and weighing 110 grams.

This is the straight-pull 240; the J-bend 240 Centerlock front is a separate listing. We build it to order in Georgia: pick the rim, spokes and nipples in our configurator and we lace, tension and true it by hand.

Design and construction

DT shapes the two versions differently. The 24-hole road front has flanges of about 37mm, set 22.1mm from center on the disc side and 35.2mm on the other, which is how a disc front gets a usable bracing angle on both sides. The 28-hole Boost front spreads the flanges to 26.5 and 39.7mm and uses a 35.5mm flange, the extra 10mm of hub width buying a noticeably stiffer front wheel under braking.

A straight-pull hub holds each spoke head in a slot in the flange, and the spoke runs in a straight line from there to the rim. There is no elbow, and the elbow of a J-bend spoke is where almost every spoke that breaks gives way. The flange also fixes the line each spoke takes, so the hub decides the lacing pattern rather than the builder.

The end caps press on and pull off by hand, so changing between 12mm and 15mm thru-axles, or fitting quick-release caps, is a two-minute job rather than a new hub.

How it rides

A 240 front is the part of the wheel nobody notices, which is the point. The bearings run smooth and quiet for a long time, the shell is stiff for its weight, and straight-pull spokes keep their tension well, so the wheel stays true through a season of rough roads.

On a road or gravel bike the 24-hole build is light and plenty strong for most riders; on a trail bike the 28-hole Boost version is the one to choose.

This version

What this listing covers: the 240 straight-pull Centerlock front in 24h with 12x100 end caps, or 28h with 15x110 Boost caps. Those are the combinations BTI and QBP carry, so the other pairings are struck through in the configurator rather than offered and then cancelled.

For a 6-bolt rotor use a Centerlock adapter. The matching rear is the 240 2020 + Straight Pull Rear Centerlock, and the 350 straight-pull front is the lower-cost alternative with the same geometry idea.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The 12x100 version fits road and gravel forks with 12mm thru-axles; 15x100 and quick-release caps are available as conversions. The Boost version fits 110mm forks with a 15mm axle, and a 12x110 conversion is offered.

It needs straight-pull spokes; we usually build it with Sapim Race or CX-Ray straight-pull spokes and brass or alloy nipples to suit the rim. Choose gravel, road disc or mountain bike as the bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and shows only rims that match the drilling you pick.

Build it with us

We build this hub to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the DT Swiss 240 2020 + Straight Pull Front Black Centerlock Disc Hub already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for gravel and road disc, track and road single-speed, mountain bike, MTB single-speed and fat bike builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.

How DT Swiss tests its hubs

DT Swiss hubs pass through the same Performance Test Center in Biel as its rims. DT Swiss states that its laboratory tests replicate what products endure in the field over the whole product life cycle, under an internal factory standard that ensures compliance with ISO 4210. DT Swiss publishes no bearing-life, salt-spray or water-ingress figures.

DT Swiss fits industrial ball bearings to all its hubs and describes them as easy to replace. It recommends cleaning and re-greasing hubs every 12 months in normal use and every 3 months in extreme conditions (regular riding in dust, rain or snow, or frequent transport in the rain). The warranty is 24 months from purchase against material and manufacturing defects; ball bearings are wear parts and excluded.

Certifications

  • ISO 4210 / ASTM F 2043 — DT Swiss states its internal factory standard 'ensures compliance with the current international standards (e.g. ISO 4210)' and sets test parameters by ASTM F 2043 riding conditions (self-declared, no certificate published) (source)
  • Warranty — 24 months legal warranty against material and manufacturing defects; ball bearings are wear parts and excluded (source)
  • Service interval — Clean and re-grease every 12 months (normal use) or every 3 months (extreme conditions) (source)

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

DT Swiss makes the DT Swiss 240 straight-pull Centerlock front; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. We cut straight-pull spokes from DT's own flange geometry and the measured ERD of your rim, lace by hand, bring the wheel up to tension in stages with a gauge, stress-relieve it and true it last.

The configurator shows only straight-pull spokes for this hub, marks the lacing as set by the hub, strikes through combinations DT does not make and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.

ProWheelBuilder. Our one-year wheel warranty applies to any wheel we build around this part, alongside whatever the manufacturer offers. Inside that year, broken spokes are replaced no matter how they broke, and the wheel labor is ours - truing, re-tensioning or a full rebuild. A rim or hub failure that the maker covers, we claim for you and see through; one the maker declines, we answer with an eligible replacement at 25% off current retail. Shipping both ways is yours, and components you supply yourself fall outside this cover.

240 Straight Pull Front Centerlock questions

Do I need special spokes for a straight-pull hub?

Yes. A straight-pull hub takes straight-pull spokes only, and the configurator hides J-bend spokes once this hub is chosen. We cut them to DT's own flange geometry and your rim's measured ERD.

Which lacing pattern does it use?

The flange slots set the spoke line, so the pattern is fixed by the hub rather than chosen. The configurator shows the lacing step as Determined by hub, and we lace to DT's specification.

Why is the 24h only offered with 12x100 and the 28h only with Boost?

Those are the two front hubs DT makes in straight pull and the ones the distributors stock. They are different shells with different flange spacing, not just different end caps.

Will my rotors fit?

Centerlock rotors drop straight on with a lockring. Six-bolt rotors fit with a Centerlock adapter, which you can add in the configurator.
