DT Swiss EX 471 Disc Brake Rim
The DT Swiss EX 471 is the enduro rim that made DT's name in the Enduro World Series: a welded 25mm-internal aluminum rim, tubeless-ready with an optimised bed, light for its strength and tough enough that it was the rim in half the race pits before the wider EX 511 arrived. It is still the right rim for enduro and hard trail riders on 2.3 to 2.5in tires who prefer the rounder profile a 25mm bed gives.
This page covers the DT Swiss EX 471 Disc Brake Rim in 29in, 27.5in, 26in. The EX 471 is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The factory extrudes the EX 511 from its top enduro alloy and welds the seam, then smooths it, which gives the most precise, strongest joint in the DT aluminum range and a perfectly round bead for tubeless tires. The 25mm inner width supports a 2.4 to 2.6in tire and will take a 2.8in plus tire if your frame allows. The walls are thickened at the bead hook and the spoke bed, and the tubeless bed is optimised so tires seat with a floor pump.
How it rides
An EX 471 wheel is stiff, precise and hard to hurt, with the rounder tire profile of a 25mm bed that many riders prefer for cornering feel on hardpack. It takes the square-edged hits that fold lighter rims and comes home true. For 2.5in and wider tires the EX 511 is the better bed; for enduro on 2.3 to 2.5in tires, the EX 471 is still a DT Swiss rim we recommend.

This version
This version is the EX 471 in 29in, 27.5in, 26in, drilled 32h, about 530g, 25mm inside, 21.5mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.
The disc version of the EX 471 has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The DT Swiss EX 471 Disc Brake Rim comes in 29in, 27.5in, 26in and 32h drilling. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the EX 471 on 350 and 240 hubs, Industry Nine 1/1 and Hydra 2, Hope Pro 5, Onyx Vesper and Chris King MTB hubs, usually with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Sprint spokes or Competition, and brass nipples.
Tire range on the EX 471 is 2.3 to 2.5in. The configurator recommends spoke count and lacing from your bike type and weight.
How DT Swiss tests its rims
DT Swiss tests rims as part of complete wheels in its Performance Test Center in Biel. DT Swiss states that test methods and parameters vary with the intended use, the maximum system weight and the ASTM F 2043 riding conditions, and are written into an internal factory standard which "ensures compliance with the current international standards (e.g. ISO 4210)". Published methods include a wheel impact test (with and without tire, monitoring rim buckling, spoke tension and run-out), a drum test in which a wheel loaded to its permissible system weight rolls over obstacles on a steel drum for a set mileage, a lateral stiffness test and a burst pressure test. No impact energies or cycle counts are published.
DT Swiss gives a 24-month defects warranty on all products; first owners of carbon component rims bought after 1 March 2025 receive a lifetime warranty against material and workmanship defects, and under the Fair-Share policy a carbon rim damaged by a riding error is replaced for a fixed contribution for 10 years after purchase. UCI approval is granted to complete wheels: DT Swiss wheels such as the ARC 1100 DICUT 700C 38 SPO (approved 2 May 2024) are on the UCI list, but component rims are not listed individually.

- ISO 4210 / ASTM F 2043 — DT Swiss states its internal factory standard 'ensures compliance with the current international standards (e.g. ISO 4210)' and sets test parameters by ASTM F 2043 riding conditions (self-declared, no certificate published) (source)
- ASTM classification per rim — R 460: ASTM classification 1, max system weight 110 kg, not e-bike approved; RR 481: ASTM classification 2, max system weight 130 kg, approved for e-bikes (max. 32 km/h or max. 250 W) (source)
- UCI approved wheels — UCI list version 2024.10.02 lists DT Swiss complete wheels, e.g. ARC 1100 DICUT 700C 38 SPO (02.05.2024), GRC 1100/1400 DI 700C CL 30 and CL 50, AR/ER 1600 SP and A/E 1800 SP 700C/650B CL 30, ARC 1100/1400 DI 700C CL 38 (all 13.06.2024); earlier ARC/ERC/PRC/GRC models 2016-2023. DT Swiss publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the rim into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
DT Swiss makes the EX 471; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Warranty
DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

EX 471 Disc Brake Rim questions
What tire width suits this rim?
25mm inside is the all-road and gravel width. Think 32 to 45mm tires: wide enough to support a gravel casing properly so it holds its shape at low pressure, narrow enough that a 30mm road tire still sits right if you swap wheels between bikes.
Which spokes and nipples suit the EX 471?
For most riders a double-butted spoke such as Sapim Race or DT Competition with brass nipples; lighter riders can go to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray. The configurator recommends a gauge and count for the EX 471 from your bike type and weight.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the DT Swiss EX 471 Disc Brake Rim?
We are not. DT Swiss manufactures the rim; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.
Is it tubeless-ready?
Yes. DT Swiss lists the EX 471 Disc Brake Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
Which spoke count should I choose?
It depends on your weight, terrain and the hub, not the rim alone. The configurator recommends a count from your bike type and rider weight, within the drillings this rim is made in.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
