ENVE Composites M6 Front Disc Brake Rim
The ENVE M6 is the trail rim in ENVE's M-Series, molded in Ogden, Utah, and it is the one we build most: wide enough for modern 2.4 to 2.6in trail tires, light enough to climb on, and tuned front and rear for the different jobs the two wheels do. The front M6 is 32mm wide inside for grip and the rear is 29mm for a tighter, stiffer tire profile under power. Both have ENVE's patented molded spoke holes, shallow 20mm-class profile and wide, blunt hookless bead. This page covers the ENVE Composites M6 Front Disc Brake Rim.
The M6 is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The M-Series rims share three ideas. The spoke holes are molded, not drilled, so the carbon fibers run unbroken around each hole and the rim keeps its strength where a drilled rim is weakest. The profile is shallow, about 20mm, which is where the compliance comes from; a deep carbon rim is stiff in every direction, and the designers decided a mountain rim should give a little vertically. And the bead wall is wide and blunt on the newest generation, which is how the company cut pinch flats and rim damage compared with its earlier rims.
How it rides
An M6 wheelset is what a modern carbon trail wheel should feel like: precise without being harsh, light without being fragile. The wide front lets you run a 2.5in tire soft for grip; the narrower rear keeps a 2.4in tire supported when you stand on the pedals. The shallow profile gives enough vertically that a long rocky descent does not beat you up, which is the thing riders coming off older carbon rims notice first.
The M6 is a trail and all-mountain rim. For cross-country racing the M5 is lighter; for enduro and park the M8 and M9 are tougher.

This version
This version is the M6 in 29in, drilled 28h, about 430g, 32mm inside, 21mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.
The disc version of the M6 has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The ENVE Composites M6 Front Disc Brake Rim comes in the drillings listed on this page. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the M6 on the brand's own hubs, Industry Nine Hydra and 1/1, DT Swiss 350 and 240, Chris King MTB, Hope Pro 5 and Onyx Vesper hubs, usually with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Competition, and brass nipples.
Tire range on the M6 is 2.3 to 2.6in, tubeless-ready tires only on the hookless bead. The configurator recommends spoke count and lacing from your bike type and weight.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for mountain bike, MTB single-speed and fat bike builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the ENVE Composites M6 Front Disc Brake Rim and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
How ENVE Composites tests its rims
ENVE makes and tests its rims in Ogden, Utah. For mountain rims it runs three drop tests, each dropping a calibrated weight onto a wheel with an inflated tire. Test 1 (since 2007) strikes both rim walls and is raised until first visible damage; ENVE requires 10 in for XC, 12 in for trail and 14 in for gravity rims. Test 2 (since 2014) strikes one rim wall to mimic pinch-flat hits, requiring 5 in (XC), 6 in (trail), 8 in (gravity) and 10 in (DH race). Test 3 (since 2021) rotates the wheel between hits so every spoke hole is struck, 100-plus impacts per rim. ENVE states the 2024 M6 improved 47% over the M630 and the M8 21% over the M730.
For hookless road rims ENVE states it has run over 1,000 tire tests in eight years. ISO 4210 requires a tire to hold 110% of its maximum pressure for five minutes (5 bar/72.5 psi for a 28 mm tire); ENVE approves a 28 mm tire only if it holds 120 psi, 165% of the ETRTO/ISO maximum.

ENVE Composites publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the rim into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
ENVE makes the M6; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Warranty
ENVE Composites's warranty. ENVE gives the original owner a five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, alongside its Lifetime Incident Protection program, which covers rims, forks, bars, stems, seatposts and hubs damaged in riding incidents.
ProWheelBuilder. If we lace this into a wheel for you, that wheel also carries ProWheelBuilder's own one-year warranty, which covers broken spokes regardless of cause and all wheel-related labor, including truing and rebuilding, for a year from purchase. Where a rim or hub is covered by its maker, we make the manufacturer's claim for you and coordinate it; where it is not, we offer an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off current retail. Shipping to and from us is the customer's. This cover does not extend to wheels built from components you supply yourself.

M6 Front Disc Brake Rim questions
What tire width suits this rim?
32mm inside is an enduro width, meant for 2.3 to 2.6in tires. It gives a big casing a square, supported profile so you can drop pressure for grip without the tire folding, which is the whole point of a rim this wide.
Which spokes and nipples suit the M6?
For most riders a double-butted spoke such as Sapim Race or DT Competition with brass nipples; lighter riders can go to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray. The configurator recommends a gauge and count for the M6 from your bike type and weight.
Why are there front and rear versions?
ENVE tunes the layup and sometimes the width to the job each wheel does: the front for grip and compliance, the rear for stiffness and impact strength.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the ENVE Composites M6 Front Disc Brake Rim?
We are not. ENVE Composites manufactures the rim; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.
Is it tubeless-ready?
Yes. ENVE Composites lists the M6 Front Disc Brake Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
Which spoke count should I choose?
It depends on your weight, terrain and the hub, not the rim alone. The configurator recommends a count from your bike type and rider weight, within the drillings this rim is made in.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
