Hope Pro 5 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub
The Hope Pro 5 is the current version of the hub Hope has been machining in Barnoldswick, England for decades, and it is one of the most complete mountain and gravel hubs made. The Pro 5 has 108 points of engagement from an offset six-pawl freehub, with three pawls engaged at any moment, a new zero-drag labyrinth seal between freehub and shell, sealed stainless cartridge bearings, and end caps for every axle standard from 12 x 135 through 12 x 148 Boost to 12 x 157 Superboost, with centerlock or 6-bolt rotor mounts, in 24 through 36 hole. The rear weighs about 313 to 326 grams depending on driver. This page covers the Hope Pro 5 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub.
The Pro 5 is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
Hope's freehub uses six pawls in two offset groups of three on a 54-tooth ring, so three pawls engage at once and the other three sit half a tooth behind, which doubles the engagement points to 108 and spreads the load over three pawls; 3.3 degrees of pickup is quick enough for technical climbing and the freehub is loud in the way Hope hubs are known for. The Pro 5's labyrinth seal replaced the rubber lip seal of the Pro 4, which cut coasting drag to almost nothing while keeping mud out, and the bearings are sealed stainless cartridges in common sizes.
The shell is machined from aluminum bar in Barnoldswick with J-bend flanges and anodized in Hope's colors: black, silver, red, blue, orange and purple among them. Freehubs swap between HG, XD and Micro Spline, and Hope stocks every spare for every hub it has ever made.
How it rides
A Pro 5 engages quickly, coasts freely and makes the noise Hope riders love. The bearings roll for years, the seals keep British-grade mud out, and the hub takes trail, enduro, downhill and e-bike use; Hope rates the Pro 5 for e-MTBs. It is the hub we suggest for a rider who wants instant-enough engagement, colors and a reputation for surviving anything at a price below the boutique American hubs.
For road and gravel Hope makes the RS4; for fat bikes the Fatsno.

This listing
This is the centerlock version: QR 5x135mm, QR 5x141mm Boost, Thru Axle 10x135mm, Thru Axle 12x135mm and more, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h drilling, about 305g, in black, blue, orange, purple, red, silver, smoke. Same internals and flanges as every other Pro 5; only the mount and axle differ.
Centerlock is the lighter, quicker rotor mount: a splined rotor drops onto the hub and a single lockring holds it, so a rotor swap takes a minute with a lockring tool and there are no six small bolts to torque or lose. Shimano and most current road and gravel rotors are centerlock; 6-bolt rotors fit with an adapter.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Hope Pro 5 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page with the axle, rotor and driver options shown in the configurator. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most Pro 5 wheels with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Competition and brass nipples.
It pairs naturally with DT Swiss, Stan's, WTB, Race Face, Reserve, We Are One, Nox and ENVE rims that match its drilling. Give the configurator your bike type and weight; it picks a sensible spoke count and lacing pattern, which you can override.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for gravel and road disc, mountain bike and fat bike builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Hope Pro 5 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
What Hope says about testing
Hope Technology states that since 1989 it has been "designing, testing and manufacturing virtually all products in-house at the factory in Barnoldswick, United Kingdom", and that "Virtually everything we do is developed, prototyped, machined, anodized and assembled on site." Pro 5 hub shells are "Machined from forged 2014 T6 Aluminum billet" with "Sealed stainless Steel cartridge bearings throughout", and every hub is "Fully serviceable and rebuildable with simple tools." Hope's About page cites almost 100 staff and 55 CNC machines; a June 2025 factory report counted 80 CNC machines and about 140 employees and stated "Random components are plucked from production and tested in the company's in-house fatigue and destructive testing facilities." A Renishaw case study quotes Hope's operations manager: "We take components off the line on a regular basis for sample measurement on the CMM", with output of 70,000 wheel hubs a year. Hope publishes no ISO 4210 or salt-spray figures.
the Pro 5 freehub uses an offset six-pawl design with engagement increased from 44 to 108 points, "3 pawls are engaged at any time", "Wire cut pawls from high strength steel", a zero-drag labyrinth seal and a step-down axle for a stiffer freehub; the e-bike version uses a stainless steel driver.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Hope makes the Pro 5 in Barnoldswick, England; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every Pro 5 wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.
In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Hope warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Hope and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Pro 5 Rear Centerlock Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.
What changed from the Pro 4 to the Pro 5?
Engagement went from 44 to 108 points with the offset six-pawl freehub, the rubber lip seal became a zero-drag labyrinth seal, and the axle and bearing layout were updated.
Which freehub bodies fit the Pro 5?
Shimano HG, SRAM XD and Shimano Micro Spline, selectable in the configurator.
Is the Pro 5 e-bike rated?
Yes. Hope rates the Pro 5 for e-MTB use; tell the configurator it is an e-bike and it picks the spokes.
Is the Pro 5 loud?
Yes, in the way Hope hubs always have been. If you want silence, look at an Onyx.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x135mm Rear or QR 5x141mm Boost Rear or Thru Axle 10x135mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x135mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x142mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x148mm Boost Rear or Thru Axle 12x150mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x157mm Super Boost Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
