Nextie Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub

The Nextie Rollingstar II fat bike hub is the fat-spacing version of Nextie's ratchet hub, and it is the pair we build under Nextie's carbon fat rims: a 36-tooth star ratchet that engages every tooth at once, stainless cartridge bearings sealed against slush and salt, a 6-bolt rotor mount and J-bend flanges drilled for 32 spokes, in 15 x 150 front and 12 x 197 rear thru-axle spacing. This page covers the Nextie Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub.

Fat bikes reward engagement, because a 4.5in tire at 6 psi grips hard enough that any dead stroke on a snow climb is lost momentum, and the ratchet gives the Rollingstar II a firm, immediate pickup that pawl hubs at this price do not. Nextie makes the hub; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer, and we sell it only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie fat wheel set.

Design and construction

The freehub is a star ratchet, the same principle the DT Swiss hubs use: two toothed rings pressed together by springs, so every tooth carries the load at once instead of two or three pawls doing all the work. Thirty-six teeth give ten degrees of engagement, quick enough for technical trail and gravel; the 45 and 54-tooth rings drop in for riders who want less than seven. The ratchet pulls apart by hand for cleaning, and the freehub body swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XD and XDR and Micro Spline without tools.

How it rides

On snow and sand a Rollingstar II fat hub engages the moment you push, coasts smoothly and keeps turning through a winter of slush thanks to the stainless bearings. The J-bend flanges take a 32-spoke build, which on a fat wheel is the right number, and the 6-bolt mount takes any rotor. Paired with a Nextie Xiphias or Wild Dragon carbon rim it makes a fat wheel light enough to change how the bike steers.

It is a straightforward, well-made fat hub rather than a boutique one; the value is the whole wheel set, which lands at a price other brands ask for the rims alone.

Which version this is

Version notes. 6-bolt rotor mount, Thru Axle 12x197mm, 32h, about 260g, in black. If your frame or fork uses a different standard, the other versions of the Rollingstar II fat bike on this site cover it.

Six-bolt is the original disc mount and still the most universal: any ISO 6-bolt rotor from any brand bolts straight on, rotors are cheap and easy to find anywhere, and the six-bolt flange is a robust, simple interface that has been on mountain bikes for twenty-five years. Centerlock rotors do not fit it.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Nextie Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub is sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie fat wheel set. It is drilled for 32 spokes, J-bend, with a 6-bolt rotor mount, in 15 x 150mm front and 12 x 197mm rear thru-axle spacing and a Shimano HG or SRAM XD freehub on the rear. We build most Nextie fat wheels with Sapim Race or DT Competition spokes and brass nipples.

It pairs with the Nextie fat bike rims on this site, Xiphias, Black Eagle, Wild Dragon and Drunken Rhinoceros; choose the rim first and the configurator offers the matching hub pair.

Build it with us

We build this hub to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the Nextie Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for fat bike builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.

Nextie's testing and certifications

Nextie publishes engineering drawings rather than lab figures for the Rollingstar hubs: full profile drawings with flange diameters, center-to-flange distances, spoke hole diameters and spoke hole offsets for every axle standard, and exploded-view drawings that name every part down to the bearing codes (6802 and 15267 cartridge bearings, AL7075 weldless-tube axles, AL6061 forged shells and end caps). The dimensions on this page are taken from those drawings.

the star-ratchet freehub is the same two-toothed-ring principle used by the leading Swiss hubs, engaging every tooth at once; Nextie fits a 36-tooth ratchet as standard on the Rollingstar II (45 and 54 available) and a 45-tooth ratchet on the Rollingstar III, and the freehub body swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XD and XDR and Micro Spline without tools.

Certifications

  • UCI wheel approval — Held by Nextie since September 2021 for wheels built on its road and gravel rims (NXT45RC 2021, Alpha 50 October 2025, Alpha 40 May 2026, Alpha 45G and 55G July 2026); no hub-specific certification exists (source)
  • SGS test certification and production-system certifications — Stated by Nextie for its factory (source)

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Nextie makes the Rollingstar II fat bike; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.

The configurator shows only rims and spokes that fit the Rollingstar II fat bike drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.

Can I buy the Rollingstar II fat hub on its own?

No. Nextie hubs are sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie wheel set we build.

What spacing is the Rollingstar II fat hub?

15 x 150mm thru-axle front and 12 x 197mm thru-axle rear, the current fat-bike standards.

Is it straight-pull like the other Rollingstar II?

No. The fat version is J-bend, drilled for 32 spokes, which opens up every spoke we stock.

Is it good for winter?

Yes. Stainless cartridge bearings and sealed end caps handle slush and salt; a clean and regrease each spring keeps it happy.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Rollingstar II Fat Bike Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub?

No. Nextie makes the hub. ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia that builds it into a finished wheel to your spec.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

Thru Axle 12x197mm Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
