Nextie Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub
The Nextie Rollingstar II is the hub Nextie builds its own wheelsets around, and the reason it is on this site is simple: it gives you the things people pay Swiss and American money for, a star-ratchet freehub that engages every tooth at once, stainless cartridge bearings, straight-pull flanges and a light machined shell, at a price that leaves the rest of the budget for carbon. This page covers the Nextie Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub, the mountain, gravel and road version in one consolidated listing: pick Boost or road spacing and the right end caps ship with it.
The Rollingstar II comes in black, silver, red and gold to match the rim decals, in 24 and 28 hole, with a 36-tooth ratchet as standard and a 45 or 54-tooth upgrade on request. Nextie makes the hub; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer, and we sell it only as a matched front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie wheel set we build by hand.
Design and construction
The freehub is a star ratchet, the same principle the DT Swiss hubs use: two toothed rings pressed together by springs, so every tooth carries the load at once instead of two or three pawls doing all the work. Thirty-six teeth give ten degrees of engagement, quick enough for technical trail and gravel; the 45 and 54-tooth rings drop in for riders who want less than seven. The ratchet pulls apart by hand for cleaning, and the freehub body swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XD and XDR and Micro Spline without tools.
The shell is machined aluminum on a hollow alloy axle with stainless steel cartridge bearings, sealed at both ends, and straight-pull flanges. Straight-pull spokes leave the flange in a line with no elbow, which lets Nextie cut the flanges light and lets us build a wheel with more even tension; it also means the lacing pattern is fixed by the flange geometry rather than chosen, which is one less thing to get wrong. End caps convert the same hub between 15 x 110 Boost or 12 x 100 front and 12 x 148 Boost or 12 x 142 rear, and the rotor mounts by centerlock.
How it rides
A Rollingstar II feels like a much more expensive hub. Engagement is firm and quiet, coasting is smooth, and the stainless bearings shrug off wet rides that pit cheaper steel. On a trail bike it is quick enough that you never think about a dead stroke; on a gravel or road bike it simply rolls. The straight-pull build gives the wheel a tidy, even feel under load that a J-bend wheel on a budget hub rarely matches.
It is not a boutique hub and it does not pretend to be: the finish is good rather than jewel-like and there is no lifetime warranty. What it is, is the best-value ratchet hub we build, and inside a Nextie wheel set it makes a complete carbon wheel for the price other brands ask for a rim.

This version
This version is the centerlock hub in Thru Axle 12x148mm Boost, Thru Axle 12x142mm, drilled for 24h, 28h, about 165g, in black, silver, red, gold. Those are the only things that differ between the versions of the Rollingstar II; the shell, bearings and seals are the same.
Centerlock is the lighter, quicker rotor mount: a splined rotor drops onto the hub and a single lockring holds it, so a rotor swap takes a minute with a lockring tool and there are no six small bolts to torque or lose. Shimano and most current road and gravel rotors are centerlock; 6-bolt rotors fit with an adapter.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Nextie Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub is sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie wheel set. It comes in 24 and 28 hole with the axle options in the configurator: 15 x 110 Boost or 12 x 100 front, 12 x 148 Boost or 12 x 142 rear, centerlock rotor. Straight-pull spokes only; the configurator switches the spoke list to straight-pull the moment you pick it, and we build most Rollingstar II wheels with Sapim CX-Ray, Laser or Race straight-pull spokes and brass nipples.
It pairs naturally with every Nextie rim on the site, MTB, gravel and road, in any tier; choose the rim first and the configurator offers the matching hub pair and colors.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for gravel and road disc, touring, mountain bike and MTB single-speed builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Nextie Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
How Nextie tests its hubs
Nextie publishes engineering drawings rather than lab figures for the Rollingstar hubs: full profile drawings with flange diameters, center-to-flange distances, spoke hole diameters and spoke hole offsets for every axle standard, and exploded-view drawings that name every part down to the bearing codes (6802 and 15267 cartridge bearings, AL7075 weldless-tube axles, AL6061 forged shells and end caps). The dimensions on this page are taken from those drawings.
the star-ratchet freehub is the same two-toothed-ring principle used by the leading Swiss hubs, engaging every tooth at once; Nextie fits a 36-tooth ratchet as standard on the Rollingstar II (45 and 54 available) and a 45-tooth ratchet on the Rollingstar III, and the freehub body swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XD and XDR and Micro Spline without tools.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Nextie designs and makes the Rollingstar II in Xiamen; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every Nextie wheel set we build gets spokes cut from the hub's measured flange dimensions and the rim's measured ERD, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships, and the pair leaves together with the caps and freehub body you chose.
The configurator shows only Nextie rims and straight-pull spokes that fit the hub's drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the whole wheel set live.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.
Can I buy the Rollingstar II on its own?
No. Nextie hubs are sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie wheel set we build.
How many points of engagement does the Rollingstar II have?
36 teeth as standard, which is ten degrees; a 45 or 54-tooth ratchet is available for quicker pickup.
Which freehub bodies fit?
Shimano HG, SRAM XD and XDR and Shimano Micro Spline, selectable in the configurator and swappable without tools.
Does it need special spokes?
Yes, straight-pull spokes. The configurator filters the spoke list automatically when you pick this hub.
Which colors are available?
Black, silver, red and gold, to match Nextie's rim decals; the colors in stock are listed in the configurator.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Rollingstar II Rear Centerlock Disc Hub?
No. The hub is made by Nextie; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.
