The Terra i22 is the carbon gravel rim we sell under our own name: 22mm inside for 35 to 45mm tires, a shallow section that keeps the weight down and the ride comfortable on washboard, a tubeless-ready bead and a layup reinforced at the bead wall where gravel rims take rock strikes. We chose it after building a lot of gravel wheels and wanting a rim we could stand behind at a price that leaves room for a good hub. The Terra i22 is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The Terra i22 is a shallow carbon disc rim with a 22mm inner width that gives a 40mm gravel tire a round, fast profile and a 33mm cyclocross tire proper support, a tubeless-ready bead that seats with a floor pump, and extra material at the bead wall and spoke bed. The shallow depth is where the comfort comes from; a gravel rim does not need aero depth and does need to give a little on rough dirt. External nipples, standard J-bend spokes, disc only.
How it rides
A Terra i22 wheelset is light, quick and forgiving on rough gravel. The shallow section takes the sting out of washboard, the 22mm bed keeps a 40mm tire stable at low pressure, and the reinforced bead shrugs off rocks. It accelerates like a road wheel and it is the rim we suggest for gravel racing, cyclocross and fast mixed-surface riding at a sensible carbon price.

This version
This version is the Terra i22 in 29in, drilled 28h, about 365g, 22mm inside, 25mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.
This is the disc-brake Terra i22: plain sidewalls, no brake track to wear, a touch lighter. It fits any disc-brake bike and it is the version most of our customers now build; the rim-brake version is a separate listing.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The PWB Terra I22 Carbon Disc Brake Rim comes in the drillings listed on this page. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the Terra i22 on DT Swiss 350 and 240, Bitex BX 106, Industry Nine 1/1 and SOLiX, White Industries CLD, Hope RS4 and Chris King R45 hubs, usually with Sapim CX-Ray, D-Light or Race spokes or DT Aerolite and Competition, and brass nipples.
Tire range on the Terra i22 is 33 to 45mm. Pick gravel or cyclocross as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
PWB makes the Terra i22; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Material, weight and value
A carbon fiber rim, listed by PWB at 365g in 700c/29in. Rim weight is rotating weight at the outside of the wheel, so it is felt more than the same grams on the frame. A 22mm inner width suits road and gravel tires that want a rounder profile.
Every PWB rim we sell is built into a wheel here: we cut spokes to the measured ERD of the exact size, lace it to the hub you choose, tension and true it by hand and stand behind the build. The current per-size price is always shown live in the configurator.
Warranty
PWB's warranty. This is our own house-brand rim, so there is no third-party manufacturer to claim against: we stand behind it directly. Ask us about cover on a bare rim, and see the wheel warranty below for a rim we build into a wheel for you.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

Build it with us
We build this rim to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the PWB Terra I22 Carbon Disc Brake Rim already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for gravel and road disc and touring builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.

What tire width suits this rim?
22mm inside is the all-road and gravel width. Think 32 to 45mm tires: wide enough to support a gravel casing properly so it holds its shape at low pressure, narrow enough that a 30mm road tire still sits right if you swap wheels between bikes.
Who makes the Terra?
A carbon rim factory makes it to our specification; ProWheelBuilder tests it, builds it and warranties it. We are the wheel builder, not the manufacturer.
Is the Terra i22 hookless?
No. It has a hooked, tubeless-ready bead, so it works with tubes and tubeless-ready tires at normal gravel pressures.
What tires fit the Terra i22?
33 to 45mm. A 38 to 42mm gravel tire or a 33mm cross tire is the usual pairing.
Terra i22 or Ventus 45CDW?
Terra for gravel and cyclocross on 35mm and wider tires; Ventus 45CDW for road and all-road on 28 to 35mm tires with aero depth.
