The Ventus 45CD is the carbon road rim we sell under our own name, and it exists because we build a lot of road disc wheels and wanted a 45mm rim we could stand behind at a price that leaves room for a good hub. It is a 45mm-deep carbon disc rim with a wide modern bed for 25 to 32mm tires, a hooked tubeless-ready bead, and a layup we chose after building and riding a lot of rims at this depth. Design and construction
Forty-five millimeters is the depth that balances aero, weight and crosswind manners for most road riders, and the Ventus 45CD is shaped the modern way: wide at the bead so a 28mm tire flows into the rim, rounded through the section so the airflow stays attached in a gust, and tubeless-ready with a hooked bead that works with tubes, tubeless-ready tires and ordinary clinchers at normal pressures. The disc version has no brake track and saves weight; the 45C is the rim-brake version with a textured carbon brake track; the 45CDW is the wider disc version. External nipples, standard J-bend spokes.
How it rides
A Ventus 45CD wheelset is fast everywhere: aero enough to feel on a flat road, light enough for climbs, and calm in a crosswind because the profile was shaped for one. With a 28mm tubeless tire it is comfortable all day, and it costs well under the boutique carbon rims while riding very close to them. It is the rim we suggest when a customer wants one carbon road disc wheelset that does everything.
For wider tires and gravel the Ventus 45CDW and Terra i22 are the choices; for a rim-brake bike the Ventus 45C.

The disc version of the Ventus 45CD has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The PWB Ventus 45CD Carbon Disc Brake Rim comes in the drillings listed on this page. It is a disc-brake road rim. We build the Ventus 45CD on DT Swiss 350 and 240, Bitex BX 106, Industry Nine 1/1 and SOLiX, White Industries CLD, Hope RS4 and Chris King R45 hubs, usually with Sapim CX-Ray or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Aerolite, and brass or alloy nipples.
Tire range on the Ventus 45CD is 25 to 32mm. Tell the configurator your bike type and weight and it suggests a spoke count and lacing pattern to suit.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
The Ventus is our own rim, specified and tested by ProWheelBuilder in Georgia and made for us by a carbon rim factory; we are the wheel builder, not the manufacturer, and we back the rim with our own warranty. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.
The configurator shows only hubs and spokes that match the Ventus drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.
Warranty
PWB's warranty. This is our own house-brand rim, so there is no third-party manufacturer to claim against: we stand behind it directly. Ask us about cover on a bare rim, and see the wheel warranty below for a rim we build into a wheel for you.
ProWheelBuilder. If we lace this into a wheel for you, that wheel also carries ProWheelBuilder's own one-year warranty, which covers broken spokes regardless of cause and all wheel-related labor, including truing and rebuilding, for a year from purchase. Where a rim or hub is covered by its maker, we make the manufacturer's claim for you and coordinate it; where it is not, we offer an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off current retail. Shipping to and from us is the customer's. This cover does not extend to wheels built from components you supply yourself.

What tire width suits this rim?
At 18mm inside this is a road width. It suits roughly 25 to 32mm tires, which is where most road bikes now sit, and it will run a 23 if you still want one. Go much wider than 32 on this rim and the tire starts to balloon above the sidewalls and squirm when you lean on it.
Who makes the Ventus?
A carbon rim factory makes it to our specification; ProWheelBuilder tests it, builds it and warranties it. We are the wheel builder, not the manufacturer.
Is the Ventus 45CD hookless?
No. It has a hooked, tubeless-ready bead, so it works with tubes, tubeless-ready tires and ordinary clinchers at normal road pressures.
45CD, 45C or 45CDW?
45CD is the disc rim; 45C is the rim-brake version with a textured brake track; 45CDW is the wider disc version for 28 to 35mm tires.
