Shimano Dura ACE HB 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub

The Shimano Dura-Ace HB-7600 is the front half of the track hubset keirin racers are required to use: a low-flange front hub with cup-and-cone bearings, a 100mm bolt-on axle with track nuts, NJS approval and the polish and precision of Dura-Ace, in 28, 32 and 36 hole. It is the partner for the FH-7600 rear. This page covers the Shimano Dura ACE HB 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub.

The Dura-Ace 7600 front hub is built to order here. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator; the wheel leaves Georgia laced, tensioned and trued.

Design and construction

The 7600 runs loose balls between cones and cups, adjusted with cone wrenches and locked with a nut, and the bearings are the smoothest Shimano makes; a Dura-Ace track hub set up properly spins for what feels like minutes. The axle is a solid bolt-on with track nuts, which is what a track dropout wants. NJS approval means the hub meets the standards of Japanese keirin racing, which is as strict as bicycle component standards get.

Because the front Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front has no freehub, it is the hub that asks for the least: a spin of the axle to check the bearings once a season and nothing else. The flanges, bearings and seals are the same as the rear's, the axle converts between the front standards with end caps, and the rotor mounts the same way. Choose it to match a rear of the same model, or on its own for a fork that needs a new front wheel.

How it rides

It is the front hub we suggest to match a 7600 rear, on the velodrome or the street.

Front wheels on disc bikes take a beating from braking: the rotor side sees the whole braking torque and the spokes on that side run at higher tension. That is why we build the front Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front with the rotor-side spokes crossed and tensioned to the rim's limit, and why the hub's flange spacing matters more than its weight. Ridden on a rim-brake bike the same hub makes one of the lightest, simplest front wheels there is.

Which version this is

Version notes. Rim-brake rotor mount, Bolt On 9x100mm, 28h, 32h, about 203g, in silver. If your frame or fork uses a different standard, the other versions of the Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front on this site cover it.

This is the rim-brake Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front, with no rotor mount at all: a lighter, simpler shell for road, track and classic frames that stop on the rim. It builds into the lightest wheel the model can make and it is the version to choose for a rim-brake bike; the disc versions of the same hub have their own listings.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Shimano Dura ACE HB 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page in 100mm bolt-on spacing. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most track wheels with DT Champion or Sapim Race and Laser spokes and brass nipples.

It pairs naturally with the Dura-Ace FH-7600 rear, and with the Velocity Deep V and Aerohead, H Plus Son Archetype and TB14 and any track rim in the catalog that matches its drilling. Pick track or fixed-gear as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.

Build it into a wheel

This hub is live in our Custom Wheel Program for track and road single-speed builds. Start a build with the Shimano Dura Ace Hb 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub and the configurator opens with this exact hub pinned at the top of the Shimano list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.

Shimano's testing and certifications

Shimano publishes no load, fatigue, or salt-spray figures for its hubs. Its US warranty states that most bicycle products are warranted free from defects in material and workmanship for two years from original purchase, and that DURA-ACE and XTR components and wheels are covered for three years, for the original owner with proof of purchase. Competition or commercial use, improper assembly or repair, finish deterioration, labor, and normal wear are excluded; bearings, corrosion, dust seals and spokes are listed as wear parts.

Shimano's higher-end hubs, including the Dura-Ace R9270 wheel hubs, use cup-and-cone loose-ball bearings, which Shimano says “effectively displace lateral and vertical loads for smooth rotation and excellent durability — [and are] easier to adjust and service”. Dealer manuals instruct that only Shimano-specified lubricants be used, internal parts not be oiled, and the hub be inspected if the wheel becomes stiff. In 2023 Shimano introduced the TC600, TC500/QC500, QC400 and QC300 cartridge-bearing hubs with “Labyrinth & Contact” seals, described as double-sealed. A 2007 Bicycle Retailer report described Shimano's Malaysian hub and wheel factory as ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant, 89,000 square meters with 2,087 employees.

Certifications

  • Warranty: 2 years / 3 years — Most bicycle products two years from original purchase; DURA-ACE and XTR components and wheels three years; original owner, proof of purchase; wear parts excluded (bearings, dust seals, free hubs, driver bodies, pawls, spokes) (source)
  • ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 (Malaysian wheel/hub factory) — Reported by Bicycle Retailer, 19 Dec 2007: factory producing wheels incl. Dura-Ace, hubs, cranks, pedals is “ISO 9001 and 14001” compliant; 89,000 sq m, 2,087 employees (source)

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Shimano makes the Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.

The configurator shows only rims and spokes that fit the Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

Shimano's warranty. Shimano covers its bicycle components for two years from original purchase, with three years on DURA-ACE and XTR and one year on wheels, footwear and soft goods. Shimano's obligation is to repair or replace at its option, against the original dated receipt.

ProWheelBuilder. Built into a wheel by us, this part is covered by our own one-year wheel warranty on top of the maker's. For a year we replace broken spokes whatever caused them, and we cover the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild if it needs one. If a rim or hub fails and its maker covers it, we run that claim for you; if the maker says no, you get an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off retail. You pay the shipping each way. Wheels built from parts you send us are excluded.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Dura ACE HB 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub questions

Can I use this hub with disc brakes?

No - this is the rim-brake version and it has no rotor mount at all, which is exactly why it is lighter and simpler. It is the one for a rim-brake road, track or classic frame. A disc frame needs one of the disc versions of this hub, which are listed separately.

Which spokes and nipples suit the Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front?

For most riders a double-butted spoke such as Sapim Race or DT Competition with brass nipples; lighter riders can go to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray. The configurator recommends a gauge and count for the Dura-Ace HB-7600 track front from your bike type and weight.

What does NJS mean?

Nihon Jitensha Shinkokai, the Japanese keirin association; NJS-approved parts meet its standards and are required for keirin racing in Japan.

Which spacing is the 7600?

100mm front and 120mm rear, the track standard, with bolt-on axles and track nuts.

Why cup-and-cone bearings?

Adjustable, rebuildable and, on Dura-Ace, the smoothest Shimano makes; we set the preload before the wheel ships.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Shimano Dura ACE HB 7600 Low Flange Track Front Hub?

We are not. Shimano manufactures the hub; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

Bolt On 9x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
