Velocity Race Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub
The Velocity Race hub is the lighter of the two hub lines the company assembles in Florida, and it is the hub we reach for when a customer wants a wheel that matches from rim to hub. The Race hub has a machined aluminum shell, sealed cartridge bearings and a pawl freehub, and it comes anodized in the same colors as the rims, which is something no other hub maker offers. This page covers the Velocity Race Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub, the mountain-bike disc version in Boost or standard spacing with a centerlock or 6-bolt rotor mount.
These are not the lightest or the fanciest disc hubs we sell, but they are well made, easy to service, priced sensibly and available in a matching color, and for a lot of trail and gravel riders that is the whole brief.
The Velocity Race hub is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The Race hubshell is machined from aluminum bar with conventional J-bend flanges and anodized in the color range. Bearings are sealed cartridge units in common sizes, replaceable with a bearing press when they eventually wear. The rear freehub runs pawls on a hardened ratchet ring for prompt engagement and swaps between Shimano HG, SRAM XD and Micro Spline bodies. End caps convert the Race hub between thru-axle and quick-release standards, and the configurator lists the axle and driver options for the version on this page.
The Race is lighter than the Standard hub because the shell is machined thinner and the axle is a lighter alloy; the flange spacing is the same, so the two build into wheels of similar stiffness.
The hubs are assembled at the same Jacksonville, Florida facility as the rims, which is why hub and rim colors match exactly and why the two are designed to be built together. The hubs use common cartridge bearing sizes and simple pawl freehubs that any shop can service, and spares stay available for years.
How it rides
A Velocity Race hub is quiet and undramatic. Engagement is quick enough for technical trail climbing, the bearings spin freely, and the seals keep grit out. It is happy under cross-country, trail and gravel use; for enduro, downhill or e-bike torque we would steer you to a heavier-duty hub.
The main reason to choose the Race hub over a DT Swiss 350 or Bitex is the color match with the rims, and a wheel built that way looks like it was made as a set because it was.

This listing
This is the 6-bolt version: QR 5x135mm, Thru Axle 12x142mm, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h drilling, about 275g, in black. Same internals and flanges as every other Velocity Race hub; only the mount and axle differ.
This is the 6-bolt Velocity Race hub: the rotor bolts to a flange with six T25 bolts, which is the mount most mountain and gravel rotors still use and the easiest to find a rotor for on the road. If you run centerlock rotors, choose the centerlock version of the same hub instead.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Velocity Race Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page with the axle, rotor and driver options shown in the configurator. It takes J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most Race hub wheels with DT Competition or Sapim D-Light spokes and brass nipples.
It pairs naturally with the Velocity Blunt 35, Blunt SS, Dually and Cliffhanger, and with any other rim in the catalog that matches its drilling. Give the configurator your bike type and weight; it picks a sensible spoke count and lacing pattern, which you can override.
Build it with us
We build this hub to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the Velocity Race Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for gravel and road disc, mountain bike, fat bike and touring builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.
What Velocity says about testing
Velocity USA offers hubs under its own name for road, gravel, mountain, touring, tandem and track use. Velocity's product pages do not state where the hubs are manufactured, and the company publishes no bearing-life, freehub-durability, sealing, load or fatigue test figures and no third-party certification for hubs; the specification tables on its hub pages (weight, bearings, axles) are blank and refer customers to the tech page.
What Velocity does state: most hubs use cartridge bearings "with weather-resistant seals", and Race hubs add "double-bearing seals for added protection." Bearing preloads are set at the factory with no need for adjustment. Velocity cautions that "Sealed does not mean waterproof" - bearings that are submerged, pressure-washed or otherwise waterlogged should be serviced or replaced by a professional mechanic, and service depends on hub type. Velocity sells replacement sealed cartridge bearings in 6001, 6802 and 6902 sizes, offers loose-ball bearings as an option on custom wheels, and ships mountain disc hubs with parts to convert between 9 mm quick-release, 12 mm and 15 mm thru-axle.
Warranty matches all Velocity products: defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, excluding normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly or maintenance; repair or replacement at Velocity's discretion.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
The Race hub is assembled in Florida; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every Race hub wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.
In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.
Warranty
Velocity's warranty. Velocity warrants its rims against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, repairing or replacing at its option. Normal wear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly and poor maintenance are excluded.
ProWheelBuilder. If we lace this into a wheel for you, that wheel also carries ProWheelBuilder's own one-year warranty, which covers broken spokes regardless of cause and all wheel-related labor, including truing and rebuilding, for a year from purchase. Where a rim or hub is covered by its maker, we make the manufacturer's claim for you and coordinate it; where it is not, we offer an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off current retail. Shipping to and from us is the customer's. This cover does not extend to wheels built from components you supply yourself.

Race Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.
What is the difference between the Race and Standard hubs?
The Race is lighter, with a thinner machined shell and lighter axle, and comes in colors; the Standard is the heavier, cheaper workhorse. Internals and flange spacing are similar.
Which freehub bodies fit the Race hub?
Shimano HG, SRAM XD and Shimano Micro Spline, selectable in the configurator for the rear hub.
Can I get the Race hub in a color to match my rim?
Yes. The factory anodises the Race hub in the same colors as its rims; the colors in stock are listed in the configurator.
Is the Race hub e-bike rated?
No. For e-bikes choose a hub with a full-contact or steel-reinforced freehub such as a DT Swiss 350 or Hope Pro 5.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x135mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x142mm Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
