White Industries Track High Flange Front Hub

This page covers the White Industries Track High Flange Front Hub.

The White Industries track hub is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.

Design and construction

The tall flange shortens the spoke and steepens its angle, which is what gives a track wheel its directness under a standing start.

White Industries has been doing this for nearly fifty years, and every component is designed, machined, finished, assembled and inspected in the one building. On a fixed wheel, where the hub takes drive and braking through the same threads, that consistency is not a romantic detail.

A front hub is a bearing carrier with flanges, and that is the whole job of the front track: two sealed bearings on a stiff axle, end caps for your fork's standard, and flanges spaced to give the spokes a good bracing angle on the rotor side. There is nothing to engage and nothing to swap. Everything written about freehubs and engagement applies to the rear hub only; what you get up front is the same shell quality and the same seals without any of the moving parts.

How it rides

A White Industries track wheel is stiff, because tall flanges shorten the spokes and stiffen the wheel, and it is permanent, because the bearings are sealed and everything is rebuildable. It is the hub we build for velodrome bikes, fixed-gear street bikes and anyone who wants a polished high-flange hub that will still be running in thirty years.

On the road or the trail the front hub's job is to disappear: spin freely, keep water out, and hold the flanges still so the wheel tracks where you point it. The front track does that with the same bearings and seals as the rear and none of the rear's complexity, and because a front wheel carries less load and no torque it stays true longer than the rear on the same rim. When the rear finally needs a look, the front usually does not.

This listing

This is the rim-brake version: Bolt On 9x100mm, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h drilling, about 223g, in polished, black. Same internals and flanges as every other track; only the mount and axle differ.

This is the rim-brake track, with no rotor mount at all: a lighter, simpler shell for road, track and classic frames that stop on the rim. It builds into the lightest wheel the model can make and it is the version to choose for a rim-brake bike; the disc versions of the same hub have their own listings.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most track wheels with DT Champion or Sapim Race and Laser spokes and brass nipples.

It pairs naturally with the Velocity Deep V, H Plus Son Archetype and TB14, and any track rim in the catalog that matches its drilling. Pick track or fixed-gear as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.

Build it into a wheel

This hub is live in our Custom Wheel Program for track and road single-speed builds. Start a build with the White Industries Track High Flange Front Hub and the configurator opens with this exact hub pinned at the top of the White Industries list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.

What White Industries says about testing

White Industries states that every hub is CNC-machined, hand-assembled, and inspected in its Petaluma, California facility, keeping “machining, assembly, quality control, and operations under one roof”. Founded in 1978 with about 20 employees, the company says it has been designing, machining, assembling, and testing components in Northern California for more than four decades in a 100% solar-powered shop using domestically sourced raw materials. It publishes no load, fatigue, or salt-spray test figures.

The Warranty & Returns page states a limited five-year warranty to the original owner, excluding normal wear, misuse, improper installation, and labor; proof of purchase is required and return shipping is covered within 90 days of purchase. Older instruction pages still cite one year, with bearings 60 days.

Everything in this section is published by White Industries. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the hub reaches us as the maker ships it.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

White Industries makes the track; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every track wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.

In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. White Industries warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by White Industries and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Built into a wheel by us, this part is covered by our own one-year wheel warranty on top of the maker's. For a year we replace broken spokes whatever caused them, and we cover the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild if it needs one. If a rim or hub fails and its maker covers it, we run that claim for you; if the maker says no, you get an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off retail. You pay the shipping each way. Wheels built from parts you send us are excluded.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Track High Flange Front Hub questions

Can I use this hub with disc brakes?

No - this is the rim-brake version and it has no rotor mount at all, which is exactly why it is lighter and simpler. It is the one for a rim-brake road, track or classic frame. A disc frame needs one of the disc versions of this hub, which are listed separately.

High flange or low flange?

High flanges shorten the spokes and make a stiffer wheel, and they look the part on a track bike; White Industries makes both, and the choice is mostly aesthetic.

What spacing?

100mm front and 120mm rear, the track standard, with bolt-on axles.

Which finishes?

Polished, black and White Industries' anodized colors.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

Bolt On 9x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Does it need special spokes?

No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
