Industry Nine 1/1 MTB Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub
The Industry Nine 1/1 is the hub Industry Nine makes for riders who want Asheville machining and reliability without the Hydra's price or its 870 points of engagement. The 1/1 uses a dual-phased six-pawl driver on a 45-tooth ring for 90 points of engagement, four degrees, which is quicker than most hubs at its price and plenty for trail riding. It has a labyrinth radial lip seal and end-cap proximity seals to keep water out, high-capacity bearings, and it is CNC-machined, anodized and assembled in Asheville, North Carolina. This page covers the Industry Nine 1/1 MTB Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub, the mountain-bike version in Boost or Superboost spacing.
The 1/1 is built to order here. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator; the wheel leaves Georgia laced, tensioned and trued.
Design and construction
The 1/1 freehub runs six pawls in two phased groups of three on a 45-tooth drive ring, so three pawls engage at once and the other three sit half a tooth behind, which doubles the engagement points to 90 and spreads the load over three pawls rather than one. The seals are the part Industry Nine is proudest of: a labyrinth radial lip seal on the freehub and proximity seals at the end caps that keep mud and pressure-washer spray out of bearings that were already oversized for the job.
The shell is machined from aluminum bar with J-bend flanges in 28 and 32 hole, black anodized, with centerlock or 6-bolt rotor mounts. End caps convert between 15 x 110 Boost front and 12 x 148 Boost or 12 x 157 Superboost rear, and freehubs swap between HG, XD and Micro Spline without tools.
How it rides
A 1/1 is quiet, quick and unbothered. Four degrees of engagement is fast enough that you never notice a dead stroke on a trail climb, the freehub is much quieter than a Hydra, and the seals mean the bearings last through wet seasons that kill lesser hubs. It is the hub we suggest when a customer wants Industry Nine quality on a trail bike and would rather put the difference into a better rim.
We build the 1/1 for trail, enduro and e-bike wheels; for instant engagement and colors the Hydra 2 is the step up.

Which version this is
Version notes. Centerlock rotor mount, QR 5x141mm Boost, Thru Axle 12x148mm Boost, 24h, 28h, 32h, about 273g, in black. If your frame or fork uses a different standard, the other versions of the 1/1 on this site cover it.
Centerlock is the lighter, quicker rotor mount: a splined rotor drops onto the hub and a single lockring holds it, so a rotor swap takes a minute with a lockring tool and there are no six small bolts to torque or lose. Shimano and most current road and gravel rotors are centerlock; 6-bolt rotors fit with an adapter.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Industry Nine 1/1 MTB Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page with the axle, rotor and driver options shown in the configurator. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most 1/1 wheels with Sapim Race or D-Light spokes or DT Competition and brass nipples.
It pairs naturally with Industry Nine's own Grade 300, Triad and Sector rims, and with DT Swiss, Race Face, Stan's, WTB, Reserve and Nox rims that match its drilling. Tell the configurator your bike type and weight and it suggests a spoke count and lacing pattern to suit.

Industry Nine's testing and certifications
Industry Nine states it "has been anodizing & machining hubs, spokes, and drive systems in Asheville, NC since 2004" and that it engineers and manufactures every component of its hub and wheel systems in-house, including hub shells, axles, spokes and anodizing: "If it moves inside an I9 hub, we made it." Coverage of the Hydra2 launch (March 2025) reports Industry Nine drew on data from over 100,000 Hydra hubs in use to redesign the hub, with a 65% thicker axle "engineered for superior stress dissipation", larger 6903 bearings throughout, a labyrinth channel and full-contact radial lip seals against contamination. Industry Nine publishes no bearing-cycle, salt-spray, ISO 4210 or laboratory test figures for its hubs.
Hydra2 has 870 points of engagement at 0.41 degrees from a 145-tooth drive ring, and Industry Nine claims 60% less coasting drag than the original Hydra (690 points at 0.52 degrees). Launch material cites larger 5.5mm pawl pockets giving 26% improved force dissipation and says the hub is "specifically designed to handle the high torque demands of powerful E-bike motors".

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Industry Nine makes the 1/1 in Asheville, North Carolina; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.
The configurator shows only rims and spokes that fit the 1/1's drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.
Warranty
Industry Nine's warranty. Industry Nine covers its hubs against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from purchase, with two years on the anodized finish. Its alloy and carbon rims carry a lifetime defect warranty to the original purchaser, with parts, labor and return shipping covered for the first two years and parts thereafter. Bearing wear, impact and crash damage are not defects.
ProWheelBuilder. Built into a wheel by us, this part is covered by our own one-year wheel warranty on top of the maker's. For a year we replace broken spokes whatever caused them, and we cover the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild if it needs one. If a rim or hub fails and its maker covers it, we run that claim for you; if the maker says no, you get an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off retail. You pay the shipping each way. Wheels built from parts you send us are excluded.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
1/1 MTB Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.
1/1 or Hydra 2?
1/1 for a reliable, quiet, sensibly priced Asheville-made hub with 90 points of engagement; Hydra 2 for 870 points, colors and the strongest axle and bearings.
Which freehub bodies fit the 1/1?
Shimano HG, SRAM XD and Shimano Micro Spline, swappable without tools and selectable in the configurator.
Is the 1/1 e-bike rated?
Yes, with e-bike-rated spokes. Its oversized bearings and steel drive ring suit trail e-bikes; tell the configurator it is an e-bike.
Does the 1/1 come in colors?
The 1/1 is black. Industry Nine's full color range is on the Hydra 2 and SOLiX.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Industry Nine 1/1 MTB Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub?
No. The hub is made by Industry Nine; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x141mm Boost Rear or Thru Axle 12x148mm Boost Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
