Industry Nine 1/1 Road Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub
The Industry Nine 1/1 road hub brings the 1/1's dual-phased six-pawl driver, 90 points of engagement and labyrinth seals to road, gravel and cyclocross disc bikes in a lighter, lower-flange shell with centerlock rotor mounts. Industry Nine rolled it out quietly, and it has become one of the best-value American-made road hubs we build: four degrees of engagement, oversized bearings, and Asheville machining at a price that leaves room for a good rim. This page covers the Industry Nine 1/1 Road Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub.
The 1/1 road hub is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The 1/1 freehub runs six pawls in two phased groups of three on a 45-tooth drive ring, so three pawls engage at once and the other three sit half a tooth behind, which doubles the engagement points to 90 and spreads the load over three pawls rather than one. The seals are the part Industry Nine is proudest of: a labyrinth radial lip seal on the freehub and proximity seals at the end caps that keep mud and pressure-washer spray out of bearings that were already oversized for the job.
How it rides
A 1/1 road hub is quiet and quick. Engagement is instant enough for cyclocross starts and gravel climbs, the freehub is muted, and the seals keep the bearings rolling through wet winters and gravel grit. It is the hub we suggest for a road or gravel disc wheel that has to last and does not need a boutique badge.
For a lighter, faster-engaging road hub in colors the SOLiX is the step up.

This listing
This is the centerlock version: QR 5x135mm, Thru Axle 12x142mm, Thru Axle 12x135mm, 24h, 28h drilling, about 282g, in black. Same internals and flanges as every other 1/1; only the mount and axle differ.
This is the centerlock 1/1: the rotor sits on a spline and a lockring holds it, which saves weight over six bolts and makes swapping rotors a one-tool job. If your rotors are 6-bolt, a centerlock adapter fits them, or choose the 6-bolt version of the same hub.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Industry Nine 1/1 Road Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page with the axle and driver options shown in the configurator. Centerlock rotors, 12mm thru-axle road spacing. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most 1/1 road wheels with Sapim CX-Ray, Laser or Race spokes or DT Aerolite and Competition and brass or alloy nipples.
It pairs naturally with DT Swiss RR and GR rims, HED Belgium, Boyd Altamont, Velocity Aileron, Nox Citico, ENVE G-Series and Reserve gravel rims that match its drilling. Give the configurator your bike type and weight; it picks a sensible spoke count and lacing pattern, which you can override.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for gravel and road disc, mountain bike and fat bike builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Industry 9 1/1 Road Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
What Industry Nine says about testing
Industry Nine states it "has been anodizing & machining hubs, spokes, and drive systems in Asheville, NC since 2004" and that it engineers and manufactures every component of its hub and wheel systems in-house, including hub shells, axles, spokes and anodizing: "If it moves inside an I9 hub, we made it." Coverage of the Hydra2 launch (March 2025) reports Industry Nine drew on data from over 100,000 Hydra hubs in use to redesign the hub, with a 65% thicker axle "engineered for superior stress dissipation", larger 6903 bearings throughout, a labyrinth channel and full-contact radial lip seals against contamination. Industry Nine publishes no bearing-cycle, salt-spray, ISO 4210 or laboratory test figures for its hubs.
Hydra2 has 870 points of engagement at 0.41 degrees from a 145-tooth drive ring, and Industry Nine claims 60% less coasting drag than the original Hydra (690 points at 0.52 degrees). Launch material cites larger 5.5mm pawl pockets giving 26% improved force dissipation and says the hub is "specifically designed to handle the high torque demands of powerful E-bike motors".

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Industry Nine makes the 1/1; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every 1/1 wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.
In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.
Warranty
Industry Nine's warranty. Industry Nine covers its hubs against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from purchase, with two years on the anodized finish. Its alloy and carbon rims carry a lifetime defect warranty to the original purchaser, with parts, labor and return shipping covered for the first two years and parts thereafter. Bearing wear, impact and crash damage are not defects.
ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
1/1 Road Rear Black Centerlock Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.
1/1 road or SOLiX?
1/1 road for a reliable, quiet, sensibly priced Asheville-made hub; SOLiX for 605 points of engagement, lower weight and colors.
Which freehub bodies fit the 1/1 road hub?
Shimano HG, SRAM XDR and Shimano Micro Spline, swappable without tools and selectable in the configurator.
Is the 1/1 road hub good for gravel?
Yes. Its labyrinth seals and oversized bearings were designed with gravel grit in mind, and four-degree engagement suits technical gravel climbs.
Does the 1/1 road hub come in colors?
It is black. Industry Nine's color range is on the SOLiX and Hydra 2.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x135mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x142mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x135mm Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
