Industry Nine Grade 300 Aluminum Rim

The Industry Nine Grade 300 is the alloy trail rim Industry Nine builds its own Enduro S wheelsets on: 30mm inside, extruded from 6069 alloy for a better strength-to-weight ratio than common 6061 rims, tubeless-ready, and shaped as the all-rounder for trail and enduro riding on 2.4 to 2.6in tires. It is the natural partner for a Hydra 2 or 1/1 hub, and buying it bare lets you lace it to any hub you like.

This page covers the Industry Nine Grade 300 Aluminum Rim in 29in, 27.5in. The Grade 300 is sold here only inside a wheel we build: choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia, laced, tensioned and trued by hand.

Design and construction

The Grade 300 is a welded double-wall 6069 aluminum rim with a 30mm inner width, a tubeless-ready bead that seats trail tires with a floor pump, and a section deep enough to be stiff under an enduro bike without the weight of a downhill rim. The 6069 alloy is stronger than 6061, which is how Industry Nine kept the Grade 300 light for its width and resistant to the dents that end an alloy rim's life. Standard nipples, J-bend spokes, disc only.

Industry Nine's alloy rims are made to be built onto Industry Nine hubs, which means the spoke holes are angled for the flange geometry of a Hydra or 1/1 and the ERDs are published to the tenth of a millimeter, and that discipline carries over to any hub we lace them to. The rims arrive with the tubeless tape and valve the company recommends, and the anodized black finish matches the black 1/1 hub or sets off a colored Hydra.

How it rides

A Grade 300 wheel is a wide, stable trail wheel that takes hits. The 30mm bed gives a 2.5in tire a square, supportive shape at low pressure, the 6069 alloy shrugs off rock strikes, and the wheel holds tension through a season of enduro riding. It is not the lightest 30mm alloy rim but it is one of the toughest at its weight.

For cross-country the Sector at 27mm is lighter; for dirt jump and park the DJ305 is stronger. For trail and enduro on 2.4 to 2.6in tires, the Grade 300 is the Industry Nine rim we recommend.

This version

This version is the Grade 300 in 29in, 27.5in, drilled 32h, about 620g, 30mm inside, 21.5mm deep, disc. Where the same rim is sold in another size or brake type, that is a separate listing with its own page.

The disc version of the Grade 300 has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Industry Nine Grade 300 Aluminum Rim comes in 29in, 27.5in and 32h drilling. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the Grade 300 on Industry Nine Hydra 2 and 1/1 hubs, DT Swiss 350 and 240, Hope Pro 5, Onyx Vesper and Chris King MTB hubs, usually with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Competition and brass nipples.

Tire range on the Grade 300 is 2.3 to 2.6in. The configurator recommends spoke count and lacing from your bike type and weight.

Build a wheel around it

Offered for mountain bike and MTB single-speed builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Industry 9 Grade 300 Aluminum Rim and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.

Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.

How Industry Nine tests its rims

Industry Nine's rim range is split between Convergence carbon rims and Hollow-Bead alloy rims (Sector, Triad, Grade 300 and DJ305). Industry Nine states every carbon rim "is laid up by a named technician, assigned a serial number, and produced entirely under one roof in Kamloops" (British Columbia). Its alloy rims use a Hollow Bead Wall design intended to improve impact resistance and reduce pinch flats; the Enduro 305 V3 introduced a bead wall 45% wider than the V2, and a 2024 review lists the Enduro 300 as a "triple cavity aluminum rim with Hollow Bead Wall design". Industry Nine does not publish the alloy grade (a review lists "6000-series aluminum alloy"), where alloy extrusions are made, or any impact- or fatigue-test figures, ISO 4210 or UCI approvals.

Warranty: Industry Nine states "Our carbon rims are covered for life against defects in materials and workmanship" and "We also cover impact damage that occurs while riding within the intended use of the wheel." Alloy rims "are covered for life against manufacturing defects, including split seams and cracks at spoke holes", with full parts, labor and return shipping for the first two years; "Impact or crash damage on alloy rims is not covered under warranty but may qualify for our Crash Replacement program." Coverage is to the original purchaser only.

Industry Nine publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the rim into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Industry Nine makes the Grade 300; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.

The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.

Warranty

Industry Nine's warranty. Industry Nine covers its hubs against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from purchase, with two years on the anodized finish. Its alloy and carbon rims carry a lifetime defect warranty to the original purchaser, with parts, labor and return shipping covered for the first two years and parts thereafter. Bearing wear, impact and crash damage are not defects.

ProWheelBuilder. If we lace this into a wheel for you, that wheel also carries ProWheelBuilder's own one-year warranty, which covers broken spokes regardless of cause and all wheel-related labor, including truing and rebuilding, for a year from purchase. Where a rim or hub is covered by its maker, we make the manufacturer's claim for you and coordinate it; where it is not, we offer an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off current retail. Shipping to and from us is the customer's. This cover does not extend to wheels built from components you supply yourself.

Grade 300 Aluminum Rim questions

What tire width suits this rim?

At 30mm inside this is a trail width, sized around 2.1 to 2.4in tires. That is wide enough to stop a modern trail casing rolling under you in a corner without pushing the tread so flat that it wears down the middle.

Grade 300, Triad or Sector?

Grade 300 is the 30mm trail and enduro all-rounder; Triad is the 30mm-class trail and enduro rim in Industry Nine's welded profile; Sector is the lighter 27mm cross-country and trail rim.

Is the Grade 300 tubeless?

Yes. It is tubeless-ready; we tape and fit a valve on request.

Is the Grade 300 e-bike rated?

For trail e-bikes with the right spokes, yes; it is the rim on Industry Nine's own e-bike wheels.

What tires fit the Grade 300?

2.3 to 2.6in. A 2.4 to 2.5in trail tire is the pairing most of our customers run.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Industry Nine Grade 300 Aluminum Rim?

We are not. Industry Nine manufactures the rim; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.

Is it tubeless-ready?

Yes. Industry Nine lists the Grade 300 Aluminum Rim as clincher tubeless compatible; we tape and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
