Industry Nine Triad Aluminum Rim

The Industry Nine Triad is a 30mm-class alloy trail and enduro rim in Industry Nine's welded, tubeless-ready profile, available in 27.5in and 29in. It is the rim for riders who want an Industry Nine alloy wheel with a wide bed for 2.4 to 2.6in tires and the toughness to take enduro riding, laced to a Hydra 2 or 1/1 hub or any other hub in the catalog.

This page covers the Industry Nine Triad Aluminum Rim in 29in, 27.5in. The Triad is built to order here. Choose the hub, spokes and nipples in the configurator; the wheel leaves Georgia laced, tensioned and trued.

Design and construction

The Triad is a welded double-wall aluminum rim with a 30mm-class inner width, a tubeless-ready bead that seats trail tires with a floor pump, and a section deep enough to be stiff under an enduro bike without the weight of a downhill rim. It shares the Grade 300's welded construction and tubeless profile in Industry Nine's own extrusion, and it is drilled with the spoke-hole angles Industry Nine's hubs call for. Standard nipples, J-bend spokes, disc only.

Industry Nine's alloy rims are made to be built onto Industry Nine hubs, which means the spoke holes are angled for the flange geometry of a Hydra or 1/1 and the ERDs are published to the tenth of a millimeter, and that discipline carries over to any hub we lace them to. The rims arrive with the tubeless tape and valve the company recommends, and the anodized black finish matches the black 1/1 hub or sets off a colored Hydra.

How it rides

A Triad wheel is a wide, tough trail wheel. The 30mm-class bed gives a 2.5in tire a square, supportive shape at low pressure, the welded alloy rim takes rock strikes, and the wheel holds tension through hard riding. It is the Industry Nine alloy rim for trail and enduro when the Grade 300 is not in stock in your size, and it builds identically.

With a 2.5in tire and a Hydra 2 hub, a Triad wheel is a stiff, precise trail wheel that still gives a little on square-edged hits, and the welded seam keeps the bead round for a tubeless tire that seats first time.

Which version this is

What this listing covers: the Triad in 29in, 27.5in with 28h, 32h drilling, about 545g, 30mm inside, 21.3mm deep, disc. If you need it in another size or for the other brake type, it is listed separately.

The disc version of the Triad has no brake track, so the sidewall is a plain extrusion that saves a little weight and never wears; it is the one to choose for any disc-brake frame. The rim-brake version, listed separately, has a machined sidewall.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Industry Nine Triad Aluminum Rim comes in 29in, 27.5in and 28h, 32h drilling. It is a disc-brake rim. We build the Triad on Industry Nine Hydra 2 and 1/1 hubs, DT Swiss 350 and 240, Hope Pro 5, Onyx Vesper and Chris King MTB hubs, usually with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Sprint spokes or DT Competition and brass nipples.

Tire range on the Triad is 2.3 to 2.6in. Tell the configurator your bike type and weight and it suggests a spoke count and lacing pattern to suit.

Build it with us

We build this rim to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the Industry 9 Triad Aluminum Rim already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for mountain bike and MTB single-speed builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.

Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.

Industry Nine's testing and certifications

Industry Nine's rim range is split between Convergence carbon rims and Hollow-Bead alloy rims (Sector, Triad, Grade 300 and DJ305). Industry Nine states every carbon rim "is laid up by a named technician, assigned a serial number, and produced entirely under one roof in Kamloops" (British Columbia). Its alloy rims use a Hollow Bead Wall design intended to improve impact resistance and reduce pinch flats; the Enduro 305 V3 introduced a bead wall 45% wider than the V2, and a 2024 review lists the Enduro 300 as a "triple cavity aluminum rim with Hollow Bead Wall design". Industry Nine does not publish the alloy grade (a review lists "6000-series aluminum alloy"), where alloy extrusions are made, or any impact- or fatigue-test figures, ISO 4210 or UCI approvals.

Rider weight limits are published per wheelset rather than per rim; reviews list 113 kg for the Enduro 305 V3 wheelset and "Max ride weight: 290 lbs (132 kgs)" for the Enduro 300 wheelset.

Everything in this section is published by Industry Nine. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the rim reaches us as the maker ships it.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Industry Nine makes the Triad; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.

The configurator shows only hubs and spokes that match the Triad drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

Industry Nine's warranty. Industry Nine covers its hubs against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from purchase, with two years on the anodized finish. Its alloy and carbon rims carry a lifetime defect warranty to the original purchaser, with parts, labor and return shipping covered for the first two years and parts thereafter. Bearing wear, impact and crash damage are not defects.

ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.

Triad Aluminum Rim questions

What tire width suits this rim?

At 30mm inside this is a trail width, sized around 2.1 to 2.4in tires. That is wide enough to stop a modern trail casing rolling under you in a corner without pushing the tread so flat that it wears down the middle.

Which spokes and nipples suit the Triad?

For most riders a double-butted spoke such as Sapim Race or DT Competition with brass nipples; lighter riders can go to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray. The configurator recommends a gauge and count for the Triad from your bike type and weight.

Grade 300, Triad or Sector?

Grade 300 is the 30mm trail and enduro all-rounder; Triad is the 30mm-class trail and enduro rim in Industry Nine's welded profile; Sector is the lighter 27mm cross-country and trail rim.

Is the Grade 300 tubeless?

Yes. It is tubeless-ready; we tape and fit a valve on request.

Is the Grade 300 e-bike rated?

For trail e-bikes with the right spokes, yes; it is the rim on Industry Nine's own e-bike wheels.

What tires fit the Grade 300?

2.3 to 2.6in. A 2.4 to 2.5in trail tire is the pairing most of our customers run.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Industry Nine Triad Aluminum Rim?

No. The rim is made by Industry Nine; we are the wheel builder in Georgia who laces it into a finished wheel to your spec and stands behind the build.
