Nextie MTB Carbon Wheelset

One listing for every Nextie mountain wheelset we offer, across all three editions. Supreme is the T800 / T1000 layup with a five-year warranty: the 29in Omega 36U cross-country rim in 260g and 280g layups, and the 29in Omega 36 trail and enduro rim in 350g and 390g layups. Premium is the T700 / T800 layup with a three-year warranty: the 29in VM 35 cross-country rim and the XD 39 downhill rim in 29in and 27.5in. Standard is the T700 layup with a two-year warranty: the 26in AM 40 all-mountain and DH 40 downhill rims.

You choose the edition, the width, the rim, the drilling, the spoke, the hub and the finish; Nextie laces, tensions and trues the pair in Xiamen and ships it complete.

Design and construction

Start with the edition, which on the mountain side is as much about duty as about weight. Supreme rims use Toray T800 and T1000 fiber on Nextie's tightest molds (within 0.15mm): the Omega 36U is the ultralight cross-country and downcountry layup, and the Omega 36 keeps the same 30mm bed with a reinforced spoke bed and hooks for hard hits. Premium rims mix T700 and high-modulus T800 (within 0.20mm): the VM 35 is the lightest Premium XC layup, and the XD 39 is the thickest and most reinforced, built for downhill impacts. Standard rims are Toray T700 (within 0.25mm), the cost-effective baseline, and the only ones here in 26in.

Width is the second choice. The 35 to 36mm rims (Omega 36U, Omega 36, VM 35) all carry a 30mm internal bed, the modern trail proportion for 2.2 to 2.6in tires. The 39 to 40mm rims are the downhill and all-mountain group: the XD 39 at 30mm internal, the DH 40 at 31mm and the AM 40 at 34mm for 2.4 to 3.0in tires.

Drilling is 28 or 32 hole; the XD 39 is 32 hole only. The wheel is laced with Sapim Race or bladed CX-Ray spokes and black alloy nipples on the Rollingstar II MTB hub, in 36T, 45T or 54T engagement, centerlock or ISO 6-bolt.

How it rides

Pick the rim for the riding, not the lightest number. The Omega 36U at 260g is a race wheel for cross-country and downcountry; the 280g layup gives up very little and takes more abuse. The Omega 36 is the trail and enduro rim, and its 390g layup is the one for riders who break rims. The VM 35 is the Premium answer for cross-country and marathon at a lower price than the Omega 36U.

The XD 39 is a downhill rim, and it is offered in 27.5in as well as 29in because that is where many downhill and mullet bikes still live. The 26in AM 40 and DH 40 keep an older bike or a dirt-jump and park bike on modern carbon at the lowest price in the range.

Engagement is the hub choice: 36T is the quiet all-rounder, 45T engages sooner on technical climbs, 54T is the quickest.

This listing

This listing is the Nextie mountain wheelset as Nextie sells it, one pair at a time. Pick the Quality of Carbon (Supreme, Premium or Standard), the width band, the rim model (the wheel size is part of the rim name), the drilling (28H or 32H), the spokes (Sapim Race or CX-Ray), then the hub (Rollingstar II MTB 36T, 45T or 54T, centerlock or 6-bolt), the driver (Shimano MTB HG, SRAM XD or Micro Spline 12S), the finish (UD Matte or UD Glossy) and the decals. The page only shows combinations Nextie makes, and the price at the top is always the cheapest complete wheelset that fits what you have picked so far. Prices follow Nextie's own list.

Fit and compatibility

Fitment is Boost, 15x110mm front and 12x148mm rear thru-axle, with centerlock or ISO 6-bolt disc mounts and Shimano MTB HG, SRAM XD or Shimano Micro Spline freehub bodies. Every rim here is tubeless-ready and hookless; tape and valves are not included. The wheel size is fixed by the rim you choose: 29in for the Omega and VM rims, 29in or 27.5in for the XD 39, 26in for the AM 40 and DH 40.

Rim finish is UD Matte or UD Glossy, with optional wrapped decals. Spokes are Sapim with black alloy nipples, and the hub is black.

Ordering it from ProWheelBuilder

Nextie builds each wheelset to order in Xiamen, so allow roughly two weeks for the build plus transit. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia and a Nextie dealer. We do not manufacture these wheels; Nextie does, and the five-year Supreme, three-year Premium or two-year Standard warranty is theirs.

We also sell every one of these rims on its own, in 24 hole as well as 28 and 32, and lace it here to any hub, spoke count and pattern you like. That is the route for a non-Boost or Super Boost bike, a wheel matched to one you already own, or a hub Nextie does not offer.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Because this wheelset comes assembled from its maker, the warranty that applies is theirs, set out above; ProWheelBuilder's one-year wheel warranty is for wheels we build here. Either way, a claim goes through us and we will manage it.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Nextie MTB wheelset questions

Supreme, Premium or Standard?

Supreme is the lightest and toughest with the five-year warranty; Premium is the balanced edition with three years; Standard is the T700 baseline with two years and the lowest price. The price on each edition row shows the cheapest complete wheelset in that edition.

Omega 36U or Omega 36?

Same 36mm wide, 30mm internal bed. The 36U is the ultralight cross-country layup (260 or 280g); the Omega 36 (350 or 390g) adds a reinforced spoke bed and hooks for trail and enduro.

Is 27.5in still available?

Yes, on the XD 39 downhill rim, priced for its own size. The Omega and VM rims are 29in; the AM 40 and DH 40 are 26in.

Which engagement?

36T is the all-rounder, 45T engages sooner on technical climbs, 54T is the quickest.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer?

No. Nextie builds the wheelset in Xiamen, China. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder and retailer in Georgia that sells it and checks your axle and freehub choices before the order goes in.
