Nextie Premium VM carbon wheelset
A complete wheelset built around the Premium VM rim. Nextie laces a pair of Premium VM rims to its own Rollingstar II MTB Boost hubs with Sapim spokes and black alloy nipples, in the 35mm wide size, tensions and trues both wheels in its Xiamen factory and ships the pair complete.
ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia and a Nextie dealer, not the manufacturer: we sell the wheelset and check your axle, freehub and size choices before the order goes in.
Building your pair
The Nextie Premium VM wheelset is sold as a matched front and rear pair: both wheels use the same rim size.
Sizes, wheelset weights and prices
Wheelset weight is the complete pair as built: both rims, spokes, nipples and the hub set, from the lightest spoke and hub choice to the heaviest. Prices are for a matched pair on the least expensive hub.
| Size | Wheel | Inner width | Depth | Tire range | Rim weight | Wheelset weight | Drilling | Wheelset price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VM 35 | 29in | 30mm | - | 2.0-2.75in | 280g | 1110-1228g | 28H, 32H | from $1016 |
The rim
The VM is Nextie's lightest Premium cross-country layup: 280 grams for a 29in rim with a 30mm inner width, and the rim Nextie filmed taking an 80-joule impact without failing. It is a Premium-edition rim with a three-year warranty.
Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. UCI wheel approval applies to road, cyclocross and gravel racing, not mountain biking, so no MTB rim carries a certificate; the approvals listed on the rim page are Nextie's road and gravel certificates, from the same factory and test lab. Nextie rates this rim for a maximum system weight of 137 kg (rider plus bike and gear). The Nextie Premium VM rim page carries Nextie's published lab results, test videos and certificates in full.
Hubs, spokes and drive
Hub choices: Nextie Rollingstar II MTB Boost 15x110 / 12x148, 36, 45 or 54-tooth engagement, Centerlock or 6-bolt rotor mount. The hub sets the drilling, 28H or 32H, and both wheels use the same set.
Spokes are Sapim: the round Race (2.0/1.8mm double-butted) for durability, or the bladed CX-Ray for less weight and drag, both with black alloy nipples. Freehub bodies: Shimano MTB (HG), SRAM XD, Micro Spline 12S.
Finish: matte or glossy carbon. Decals: None.
Other Nextie mountain bike wheelsets
Supreme Omega 36 (30mm inner, from 1250g); Supreme Omega 36U (30mm inner, from 1070g); Premium XD DH (30mm inner, from 1628g); Standard AM (34mm inner, from 1450g); Standard DH (31mm inner, from 1650g)
Value
The VM matches the weight of Supreme cross-country rims for much less, because the Premium T700 and T800 layup is where Nextie's factory-direct pricing pays off most.
Ordering and lead time
Nextie builds each wheelset to order in Xiamen, so allow roughly two weeks for the build plus transit. The price at the top of the page is the complete wheelset as configured. Want a single wheel, a different hub, other spokes, or a wheel laced here in Georgia? Build it in the Custom Wheel Program, which opens with the Nextie Premium VM rim already selected.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. These wheels were built at the factory, not on our bench, so it is the maker's warranty above that stands behind them - our own one-year wheel warranty covers wheels we lace ourselves. If you do need to claim, we will deal with the manufacturer for you.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Nextie Premium VM wheelset questions
Is the VM the rim in Nextie's 80J impact video?
Yes. Nextie's video shows the 280-gram NXT29VM35U, this rim, taking 80 joules from a 22.5kg hammer on a 28-hole wheel without failing, which passes Nextie's Premium cross-country standard.
Is the VM suitable for trail riding?
It is a cross-country layup. For regular trail riding, rock gardens or heavier riders, the reinforced Omega 36 is the better rim.
Can I buy one Premium VM wheel on its own?
Not from this page: the factory-built wheelset is sold as a pair. A single front or rear wheel on this rim can be built in the Custom Wheel Program.
Which hub should I choose?
All three are Rollingstar II; pick by engagement (36, 45 or 54 teeth) and by rotor mount (Centerlock or 6-bolt).
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Premium VM?
No. Nextie designs and manufactures the rims and hubs and builds this wheelset in Xiamen. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia and a Nextie dealer: we sell it, check your choices before the order goes in and handle any warranty claim.
