Rolf Prima Vigor AR Wheelset
The Rolf Prima Vigor AR is the all-road version of the wheel that made Rolf's name. The original Vigor has been an aluminum aero wheel for more than twenty years, and the Vigor AR keeps that 30mm deep, wind-shedding Delta rim shape while opening the inner width up to 24mm. That one change is the whole point of the AR: the same snappy alloy character, now sized for the 28mm to 50mm tires that modern road, all-road and gravel bikes actually run.
Who is it for? A rider who wants one metal wheelset for pavement in the morning and a dirt road in the afternoon, who likes a wheel that can be trued and serviced at any shop, and who does not want to pay carbon money to get a light, fast, stiff wheel. Rolf lists the set at 1625 grams, which is competitive with a lot of carbon gravel wheels.
Paired-spoke lacing matters here because it is what lets Rolf build a 20-spoke alloy wheel that behaves like a 24 or 28-spoke one. Bringing the spokes to the rim in pairs neutralizes the left and right pulling forces, so each spoke can carry higher, more even tension. That is how the Vigor AR gets its stiffness without a heavy rim or a lot of spokes.
Design and construction
The rim is an aluminum, asymmetric, tubeless-compatible clincher, 30mm deep with a 24mm inner width. The asymmetric drilling offsets the spoke bed to improve tension balance between the drive and non-drive sides, and the Delta profile is shaped to keep crosswinds from pushing the front wheel around. It arrives taped for tubeless with a valve.
The hubs are Rolf's US-made XST 4.4 platform with the T2 high-engagement drive. T2 uses a 48-tooth drive ring with three independently sprung steel pawls, which Rolf describes as twice as fast as its older 24-tooth ring. Bearings are Enduro steel cartridges and the freehub body is CNC-machined 6Al-4V titanium. Rolf's own copy for the Vigor AR also notes the hub is made by sibling brand White Industries in Petaluma, California.
Spoke count is 20 front and 20 rear, laced with bladed Sapim CX Speed spokes in Rolf's paired pattern. The brake interface is disc only. Front axle choices are Boost 110mm (15mm or 12mm), standard 15mm or 12mm thru-axle, or 9mm QR. Rear choices are Boost 148mm, Boost 141mm QR, 142mm thru-axle or 135mm QR.
How it rides
On pavement the Vigor AR feels like a Vigor: quick to spin up, direct under a sprint, and stable in gusts thanks to the shallow-for-aero 30mm depth. It is not a deep-section wheel and does not pretend to be, so a crosswind on an exposed ridge road is a non-event. The 24mm inner width squares up a 32mm or 35mm tire nicely and takes a lot of the harshness out of chip seal.
Off pavement, this is a wheel for graded gravel, forest roads and mixed-surface loops rather than rock gardens. Aluminum rims dent rather than crack, which many gravel riders prefer, and the 20-spoke paired build is stiffer than the count suggests. Heavier or harder-charging riders should know that Rolf itself steers bigger riders toward the stiffer Vigor family, and the Vigor AR is exactly that wheel in an all-road size.

What this page sells
About this Vigor AR Wheelset listing. The choices on this page are front axle: Thru Axle 15x110mm Boost Front, Thru Axle 12x110mm Boost Front, 15mm Thru Axle Front, 12mm Thru Axle Front, 9mm QR Front; rear axle: 148mm Thru Axle Boost Rear, 141mm QR Boost Rear, 142mm Thru Axle Rear, 135mm QR Rear; driver type: Shimano HG 10/11, SRAM XDR, Campagnolo, Campagnolo N3W, Shimano Micro Spline. This listing is the complete wheelset - front and rear together, not a single wheel.
Fit and compatibility
The Vigor AR is a 700c disc wheelset. Axle end caps cover nearly every current road and gravel frame: 12x100, 15x100, Boost 110 and QR fronts; 142x12, 148 Boost, 141 Boost QR and 135 QR rears. Freehub bodies offered are Shimano HG 10/11, SRAM XDR, Campagnolo, Campagnolo N3W and Shimano Micro Spline, so a road group, a gravel group or a mullet setup with a mountain cassette all work.
Rolf approves the rim for 28mm to 50mm tires. We think 32mm to 40mm is the sweet spot for the 24mm inner width if you split time between road and dirt.
Rolf Prima's testing and certifications
Rolf Prima builds every complete wheelset by hand at its facility in Eugene, Oregon. The company states that all orders are built by hand there by its own builders, and describes its process as building each wheel three times with two stress cycles in the build to seat and stretch all components. Rolf Prima says hand building lets it hit uniform spoke tensions that machine building cannot match, and that its design allows higher and more targeted spoke tension than a traditionally laced wheel, which it credits with increasing stiffness and improving spoke durability by decreasing the load cycle on each spoke.
The defining feature of a Rolf Prima wheel is Paired Spoke Technology, introduced in 1997. Bringing the spokes to the rim in pairs neutralizes the left and right outward pulling forces, which Rolf Prima says allows it to build true wheels on lighter rims with fewer spokes. Fewer spokes and lighter rims are the basis of the brand's aerodynamic and weight claims. The wheel systems combine paired spokes with the Delta rim profile, internal nipples, and patented details including the Jacketed Nipple, Self-Aligning Nipple, Differential Flange Diameter and Dish Reducing Design. Rolf Prima cites eleven patents behind its technology.
Rolf Prima runs an in-house engineering and testing lab and states it uses the ISO 4210 standard as a base starting point but considers it not tough enough, so it applies its own in-house standards. Published test capabilities include an in-house drum fatigue tester it calls the Thrasher, which compresses years of riding into days; an impact test using a weight calibrated steel anvil that exceeds the UCI 40 joule requirement, striking at spokes, between spokes and at the valve hole; lateral and radial stiffness measurement of rims alone and complete wheels; brake energy, distance and temperature testing developed for carbon clinchers; wind tunnel evaluation; and field testing by sponsored athletes. The Certainty page cites over 10,000 hours of lab testing to above industry standards.
On racing eligibility, Rolf Prima explains that UCI approval only matters for mass start UCI road races, UCI cyclocross and draft legal ITU triathlon. Its standard wheels (Aspin and the Elan family) do not require approval, while most of its deeper or lower spoke count models are non standard and are listed on the UCI approval registry. Rolf Prima does not publish a fixed rider weight limit; it says every wheel has limits that involve riding style and road conditions as well as weight, and directs heavier or more aggressive riders toward stiffer models such as Vigor, Echelon or Ares6. All road wheels can be set up tubeless with the brand's tubeless kit, and adventure, cyclocross and mountain models ship tubeless ready with tape and valves installed.
Rolf Prima backs its wheels with the Certainty program: a five year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original owner, lifetime crash replacement at a discount for registered wheels, a 30 day trade out or return window in the USA, replacement parts availability for any Rolf Prima wheel regardless of age, and stated service response times of same day to 24 hours on calls and email with service work resolved within three days of receipt.

A note on Rolf Prima
Rolf Prima builds by hand in Eugene, Oregon. Hand-built at the factory means what it means here, that each wheel is tensioned and trued by a person rather than released by a machine, which is why we are comfortable selling them beside the wheels we build ourselves.
Ordering it from ProWheelBuilder
Every Vigor AR is hand-built to order by Rolf Prima in Eugene, Oregon. We sell it here at ProWheelBuilder in Georgia. When your order comes in we confirm the axle, freehub and any decal or hub color options against your bike before it goes to Rolf, and we are happy to talk through the choice if you are unsure which end caps or driver body your frame and drivetrain need.
If you like the Rolf approach but want a different hub, a higher spoke count or a specific lacing, we also build custom wheels on Astral rims, which is Rolf Prima's rim brand. Ask us and we will spec one alongside the Vigor AR so you can compare.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Rolf Prima gives a one-year limited warranty on its wheels under normal use. Astral is Rolf Prima's rim brand; ask us and we will confirm the current terms for the exact rim before you buy.

Vigor AR questions
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Vigor AR?
No. Rolf Prima designs and builds the Vigor AR in Eugene, Oregon. We are an authorized reseller; we take your order, check the configuration and Rolf builds it.
Is the Vigor AR a gravel wheel or a road wheel?
Both. Rolf calls it all-road. The 24mm inner width and 28-50mm tire approval cover road, all-road and gravel, and the 30mm Delta rim keeps it quick on pavement.
Can I get a Micro Spline or XDR driver on the Vigor AR?
Yes. Rolf offers Shimano HG 10/11, SRAM XDR, Campagnolo, N3W and Shimano Micro Spline freehub bodies on the XST 4.4 hub.
Does the Vigor AR fit a Boost gravel or drop-bar mountain frame?
Yes. Boost 110 front and Boost 148 rear end caps are on Rolf's option list, along with standard 12/15x100 and 142x12.
Only 20 spokes on a gravel wheel. Is that enough?
Rolf's paired-spoke lacing balances left and right spoke pull so each spoke runs at higher, more even tension. That is how a 20-spoke Vigor AR builds as stiff as a conventional wheel with more spokes. Rolf backs it with a five-year warranty and lifetime crash replacement.
What is the Vigor AR weight?
Rolf lists 1625 grams for the pair, roughly 715 grams front and 830 grams rear, taped for tubeless.
