Velocity Standard ATB Front Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub

ATB is Velocity's old-school name for a mountain bike, and the hub suits exactly that: cross-country, trail, gravel and everyday off-road riding. This page covers the Velocity Standard ATB Front Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub.

The Standard ATB is a little heavier than Velocity's Race hub and comes in black rather than the full color range, and in exchange it costs noticeably less. For a tough, serviceable disc hub under a Blunt, Cliffhanger or Dually, it is very hard to argue with.

The Velocity Standard ATB hub comes from us only as a finished wheel: pick the rim, spokes and nipples, and we lace, tension and true it by hand in Georgia before it ships.

Design and construction

The Standard ATB hubshell is machined from aluminum with conventional J-bend flanges and an ISO 6-bolt rotor mount. Bearings are sealed cartridge units in common sizes, so replacement years down the line is a ten-minute job with a bearing press.

Velocity keeps the flange spacing wide on the rotor side, which is what gives a Standard ATB wheel its lateral stiffness.

Velocity USA assembles its hubs at the same Jacksonville, Florida facility where it makes its rims, which is why hub and rim colors match exactly and why the two are designed to be built together.

This is the front hub, and a front hub has no freehub. What matters here is the part of the hub that carries the wheel: the bearings, the seals, the axle and the two flanges, and the front Standard ATB shares all of them with its rear partner. It is the simpler half of the pair and the one that runs longest between services. The driver and engagement story belongs on the rear hub's page; this page is about a front wheel that spins freely, stays sealed and builds stiff.

How it rides

We build a lot of Standard ATB wheels for riders replacing a worn stock wheel who want something that will last and do not need a badge.

A front wheel is where you feel a hub least and a build most. With no drive torque to carry, the front Standard ATB can be laced two-cross or even radial on the non-rotor side on a rim-brake bike, which makes a lighter, more direct-feeling wheel; on a disc bike we lace both sides crossed so the rotor's braking torque has spokes to pull against. Either way the front wheel is the one that steers, and a stiff, true front wheel is most of what makes a bike feel precise.

About this listing

What sets this listing apart from the other Standard ATB versions: 6-bolt rotor mount, QR 5x100mm, Thru Axle 12x100mm, Thru Axle 15x100mm, 32h, 36h, 40h drilling, about 220g, in black. Pick the one that matches your frame and rotor and the rest of the hub is identical.

This is the 6-bolt Standard ATB: the rotor bolts to a flange with six T25 bolts, which is the mount most mountain and gravel rotors still use and the easiest to find a rotor for on the road. If you run centerlock rotors, choose the centerlock version of the same hub instead.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

It takes J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most Standard ATB wheels with Sapim Race or DT Competition spokes and brass nipples.

It pairs naturally with the Velocity Blunt 35, Blunt SS, Dually and Cliffhanger, and with Stan's, WTB, DT Swiss and Race Face rims that match its drilling. Pick your bike type and weight in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.

Build it into a wheel

This hub is live in our Custom Wheel Program for gravel and road disc, mountain bike, MTB single-speed, fat bike, tandem and e-bike and touring builds. Start a build with the Velocity Standard ATB Front Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub and the configurator opens with this exact hub pinned at the top of the Velocity list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.

Testing, standards and warranty at Velocity

Velocity USA offers hubs under its own name for road, gravel, mountain, touring, tandem and track use.

Warranty matches all Velocity products: defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, excluding normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly or maintenance; repair or replacement at Velocity's discretion.

The figures, certificates and media above are Velocity's own. ProWheelBuilder does not run these tests; our part is the wheel we build on the hub.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Velocity USA assembles the Standard ATB hub; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. We measure the rim before we cut a spoke, bring the wheel up in three or four rounds with a gauge, stress-relieve it between rounds and true it last, then tape it and fit a valve if you want it tubeless.

Only compatible hubs and spokes appear in the configurator, impossible combinations are struck through rather than hidden, and the price is live.

Warranty

Velocity's warranty. Velocity warrants its rims against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, repairing or replacing at its option. Normal wear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly and poor maintenance are excluded.

ProWheelBuilder. Wheels we build around this part are covered by our own one-year warranty alongside the maker's. Within the year: broken spokes replaced regardless of cause, and the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning or a complete rebuild - included. A manufacturer-covered rim or hub failure is a claim we make and manage for you; one they will not cover is answered with an eligible replacement at 25% off retail. Shipping each way is yours. Parts you supply yourself fall outside it.

Standard ATB Front Black ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.

What does ATB mean?

All-terrain bike, Velocity's traditional name for a mountain-bike hub. The Standard ATB is a 6-bolt disc MTB hub.

Standard ATB or Race hub?

The Race is lighter and comes in colors; the Standard ATB is cheaper and black. Both are reliable sealed-bearing hubs with similar internals.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

QR 5x100mm Front or Thru Axle 12x100mm Front or Thru Axle 15x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Does it need special spokes?

No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
