Velocity Tandem Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Hub
The Velocity Tandem hub is the tandem rear hub in Velocity USA's range: a 6-bolt disc hub in 145mm tandem spacing with a machined aluminum shell, sealed cartridge bearings, a pawl freehub and the high spoke counts a tandem wheel needs, assembled in Florida. This page covers the Velocity Tandem Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Hub.
Tandem hubs carry two riders and their luggage, and the Tandem hub's wide flange spacing, sealed bearings and 36 or 40 hole drilling are what make a wheel that stays true under that load. It is one of the few sealed-bearing tandem hubs available at a sensible price.
The Velocity Tandem hub comes from us only as a finished wheel: pick the rim, spokes and nipples, and we lace, tension and true it by hand in Georgia before it ships.
Design and construction
The Standard ATB hubshell is machined from aluminum with conventional J-bend flanges and an ISO 6-bolt rotor mount. Bearings are sealed cartridge units in common sizes, so replacement years down the line is a ten-minute job with a bearing press. The rear freehub runs pawls on a hardened ratchet ring and swaps between Shimano HG and SRAM XD bodies. End caps convert the hub between quick-release and thru-axle standards; the configurator lists the axle and driver options for the version on this page.
How it rides
A Tandem hub does its job quietly under a tandem. Engagement is prompt, the bearings spin cleanly under load, and the wide flanges give the rear wheel the lateral stiffness two riders demand. With a Velocity Atlas rim and 40 spokes it builds into a tandem wheel that simply does not go out of true.

About this listing
What sets this listing apart from the other Tandem versions: 6-bolt rotor mount, QR 5x145mm Tandem, 40h drilling, about 445g, in black. Pick the one that matches your frame and rotor and the rest of the hub is identical.
Six-bolt is the original disc mount and still the most universal: any ISO 6-bolt rotor from any brand bolts straight on, rotors are cheap and easy to find anywhere, and the six-bolt flange is a robust, simple interface that has been on mountain bikes for twenty-five years. Centerlock rotors do not fit it.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Velocity Tandem Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page in 145mm tandem spacing with a 6-bolt rotor mount and Shimano HG freehub. It takes J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build tandem wheels with DT Champion or Sapim Strong spokes and brass nipples.
It pairs with the Velocity Atlas and Cliffhanger disc rims and with any other 36 or 40 hole disc rim in the catalog. Pick tandem as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern.
Build it into a wheel
This hub is live in our Custom Wheel Program for tandem and e-bike and touring builds. Start a build with the Velocity Tandem Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Hub and the configurator opens with this exact hub pinned at the top of the Velocity list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.
Testing, standards and warranty at Velocity
Velocity USA offers hubs under its own name for road, gravel, mountain, touring, tandem and track use. Velocity's product pages do not state where the hubs are manufactured, and the company publishes no bearing-life, freehub-durability, sealing, load or fatigue test figures and no third-party certification for hubs; the specification tables on its hub pages (weight, bearings, axles) are blank and refer customers to the tech page.
Velocity states cassette-body pawls should be inspected and lubricated once a year or more depending on use and environment; cassette bodies come in Shimano, SRAM XD/XDR and Campagnolo fitments.
What Velocity does state: most hubs use cartridge bearings "with weather-resistant seals", and Race hubs add "double-bearing seals for added protection." Bearing preloads are set at the factory with no need for adjustment. Velocity cautions that "Sealed does not mean waterproof" - bearings that are submerged, pressure-washed or otherwise waterlogged should be serviced or replaced by a professional mechanic, and service depends on hub type. Velocity sells replacement sealed cartridge bearings in 6001, 6802 and 6902 sizes, offers loose-ball bearings as an option on custom wheels, and ships mountain disc hubs with parts to convert between 9 mm quick-release, 12 mm and 15 mm thru-axle.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Velocity makes the Tandem; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. We measure the rim before we cut a spoke, bring the wheel up in three or four rounds with a gauge, stress-relieve it between rounds and true it last, then tape it and fit a valve if you want it tubeless.
Only compatible hubs and spokes appear in the configurator, impossible combinations are struck through rather than hidden, and the price is live.
Warranty
Velocity's warranty. Velocity warrants its rims against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, repairing or replacing at its option. Normal wear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly and poor maintenance are excluded.
ProWheelBuilder. Our one-year wheel warranty applies to any wheel we build around this part, alongside whatever the manufacturer offers. Inside that year, broken spokes are replaced no matter how they broke, and the wheel labor is ours - truing, re-tensioning or a full rebuild. A rim or hub failure that the maker covers, we claim for you and see through; one the maker declines, we answer with an eligible replacement at 25% off current retail. Shipping both ways is yours, and components you supply yourself fall outside this cover.

Tandem Rear Black ISO 6 Bolt Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.
What spacing is the hub?
145mm rear, the modern tandem standard, with a 6-bolt disc mount.
What spoke count should a tandem wheel have?
36 minimum, 40 preferred for a loaded tandem; the configurator recommends from your team weight.
Which rim goes with the Tandem hub?
The Velocity Atlas is the classic pairing; the Cliffhanger for wider tires.
Is the hub rated for a heavy team?
Yes. Wide flanges, sealed bearings and 40-hole drilling are what make it a tandem hub; tell the configurator your team weight and it picks the spokes.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x145mm Tandem Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
