White Industries CLD Front Centerlock Disc Hub
The White Industries CLD is the centerlock disc hub from a company that has been machining hubs in Petaluma, California for more than thirty years, and it is the White Industries hub we build most. It is machined from 6061 aluminum, anodized in a range of colors, and rebuildable for life. This page covers the White Industries CLD Front Centerlock Disc Hub.
The CLD is sold here only inside a wheel we build. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator and the finished wheel ships from Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
Rotors mount by centerlock, end caps swap for 12 x 100 and 12 x 142 thru-axle or quick release, and the CLD+ version covers Boost MTB spacing.
Every part is replaceable and White Industries still stocks spares for hubs it made decades ago. Anodized colors match its cranks and headsets.
The logos are engraved after anodising rather than before, cutting back through the color to the bare aluminum underneath. It is why the lettering on a White Industries hub stays crisp and keeps its contrast instead of softening as the finish ages.
Because the front CLD has no freehub, it is the hub that asks for the least: a spin of the axle to check the bearings once a season and nothing else. The flanges, bearings and seals are the same as the rear's, the axle converts between the front standards with end caps, and the rotor mounts the same way. Choose it to match a rear of the same model, or on its own for a fork that needs a new front wheel.
How it rides
It is the hub we suggest for a road, gravel or touring disc wheel that the customer intends to keep, and for anyone who wants an American-made hub in a color.
A front wheel is where you feel a hub least and a build most. With no drive torque to carry, the front CLD can be laced two-cross or even radial on the non-rotor side on a rim-brake bike, which makes a lighter, more direct-feeling wheel; on a disc bike we lace both sides crossed so the rotor's braking torque has spokes to pull against. Either way the front wheel is the one that steers, and a stiff, true front wheel is most of what makes a bike feel precise.

This version
This version is the centerlock hub in QR 5x100mm, Thru Axle 12x100mm, Thru Axle 15x100mm, drilled for 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h, about 164g, in polished, black, blue, gold, pink, purple, red. Those are the only things that differ between the versions of the CLD; the shell, bearings and seals are the same.
Centerlock is the lighter, quicker rotor mount: a splined rotor drops onto the hub and a single lockring holds it, so a rotor swap takes a minute with a lockring tool and there are no six small bolts to torque or lose. Shimano and most current road and gravel rotors are centerlock; 6-bolt rotors fit with an adapter.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most CLD wheels with Sapim CX-Ray, Laser or Race spokes or DT Aerolite and Competition and brass or alloy nipples.
It pairs naturally with HED Belgium, Boyd Altamont and CCC, DT Swiss RR and GR, Velocity Aileron, ENVE G-Series, Reserve and Nox gravel rims that match its drilling. The configurator recommends spoke count and lacing from your bike type and weight.
Build it into a wheel
This hub is live in our Custom Wheel Program for gravel and road disc, mountain bike, MTB single-speed, fat bike and touring builds. Start a build with the White Industries CLD Front Centerlock Disc Hub and the configurator opens with this exact hub pinned at the top of the White Industries list — you choose the rest of the parts and it validates every combination as you go.
How White Industries tests its hubs
White Industries states that every hub is CNC-machined, hand-assembled, and inspected in its Petaluma, California facility, keeping “machining, assembly, quality control, and operations under one roof”. Founded in 1978 with about 20 employees, the company says it has been designing, machining, assembling, and testing components in Northern California for more than four decades in a 100% solar-powered shop using domestically sourced raw materials. It publishes no load, fatigue, or salt-spray test figures.
The Warranty & Returns page states a limited five-year warranty to the original owner, excluding normal wear, misuse, improper installation, and labor; proof of purchase is required and return shipping is covered within 90 days of purchase. Older instruction pages still cite one year, with bearings 60 days.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder
White Industries makes the CLD in Petaluma, California; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Spokes are cut from the ERD we measure on the actual rim, the wheel comes up in stages on a tensiometer, and it is stress-relieved and trued before it goes in the box; tape and a valve go on if you ask.
The configurator filters to what fits, crosses out what is not made, and prices the build as you go.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. White Industries warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by White Industries and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
CLD Front Centerlock Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.
Is the CLD Boost compatible?
The standard CLD is 12 x 100 and 12 x 142; the CLD+ is the Boost version. Pick the one that matches your frame.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the White Industries CLD Front Centerlock Disc Hub?
We are not. White Industries manufactures the hub; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x100mm Front or Thru Axle 12x100mm Front or Thru Axle 15x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
