White Industries XMR Front BOOST ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub

The White Industries XMR is the 6-bolt disc hub from Petaluma, California, and the letters tell you what it is for: Cross, Mountain, Road. The XMR+ covers Boost spacing. This page covers the White Industries XMR Front BOOST ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub.

The XMR is built to order here. Choose the rim, spokes and nipples in the configurator; the wheel leaves Georgia laced, tensioned and trued.

Design and construction

The XMR is cut from 6061 bar in Petaluma around a 17mm front axle and a 15mm rear, which is what lets one hub cover so many frames: the front converts between 9 x 100 quick release, 12 x 100 and 15 x 100 thru-axle on end caps alone, and the rear between 10 x 135 quick release and 12 x 142.

White Industries recycles every aluminum chip the machining produces rather than scrapping it, which is the sort of housekeeping a shop only bothers with when it owns the whole process.

Because the front XMR has no freehub, it is the hub that asks for the least: a spin of the axle to check the bearings once a season and nothing else. The flanges, bearings and seals are the same as the rear's, the axle converts between the front standards with end caps, and the rotor mounts the same way. Choose it to match a rear of the same model, or on its own for a fork that needs a new front wheel.

How it rides

It is the hub we suggest for a 6-bolt disc bike that wants an American-made hub in a color; for centerlock rotors the CLD is the same hub with a different mount.

Front wheels on disc bikes take a beating from braking: the rotor side sees the whole braking torque and the spokes on that side run at higher tension. That is why we build the front XMR with the rotor-side spokes crossed and tensioned to the rim's limit, and why the hub's flange spacing matters more than its weight. Ridden on a rim-brake bike the same hub makes one of the lightest, simplest front wheels there is.

Which version this is

Version notes. 6-bolt rotor mount, Thru Axle 15x110mm Boost, Thru Axle 12x110mm Boost, 28h, 32h, 36h, 40h, about 180g, in polished, black, blue, gold, pink, purple, red. If your frame or fork uses a different standard, the other versions of the XMR on this site cover it.

This is the 6-bolt XMR: the rotor bolts to a flange with six T25 bolts, which is the mount most mountain and gravel rotors still use and the easiest to find a rotor for on the road. If you run centerlock rotors, choose the centerlock version of the same hub instead.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most XMR and XMR+ wheels with Sapim Race, D-Light or CX-Ray spokes or DT Competition and brass nipples.

It pairs naturally with Stan's, WTB, DT Swiss, Velocity, Nox and Reserve rims that match its drilling. Tell the configurator your bike type and weight and it suggests a spoke count and lacing pattern to suit.

Build a wheel around it

Offered for gravel and road disc, tandem and e-bike, track and road single-speed, mountain bike, MTB single-speed, fat bike and touring builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the White Industries XMR Front Boost ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.

White Industries's testing and certifications

White Industries states that every hub is CNC-machined, hand-assembled, and inspected in its Petaluma, California facility, keeping “machining, assembly, quality control, and operations under one roof”. Founded in 1978 with about 20 employees, the company says it has been designing, machining, assembling, and testing components in Northern California for more than four decades in a 100% solar-powered shop using domestically sourced raw materials. It publishes no load, fatigue, or salt-spray test figures.

The Warranty & Returns page states a limited five-year warranty to the original owner, excluding normal wear, misuse, improper installation, and labor; proof of purchase is required and return shipping is covered within 90 days of purchase. Older instruction pages still cite one year, with bearings 60 days.

White Industries publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the hub into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

White Industries makes the XMR; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. The build is the same every time: measured ERD, spokes cut to the half millimeter, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief, a final true, and tubeless tape and a valve on request.

The configurator shows only rims and spokes that fit the XMR drilling, strikes through combinations that are not made, and prices the wheel live.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. White Industries warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by White Industries and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

XMR Front BOOST ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.

Which spokes and nipples suit the XMR?

For most riders a double-butted spoke such as Sapim Race or DT Competition with brass nipples; lighter riders can go to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray. The configurator recommends a gauge and count for the XMR from your bike type and weight.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the White Industries XMR Front BOOST ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub?

We are not. White Industries manufactures the hub; ProWheelBuilder's part is the wheel: measuring, lacing, tensioning and truing it here in Georgia.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

Thru Axle 15x110mm Boost Front or Thru Axle 12x110mm Boost Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

Does it need special spokes?

No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
