Wolf Tooth Road Gravel Rear Straight Pull Centerlock Disc Hub
The rear half of Wolf Tooth's road and gravel set: a 24-hole straight-pull shell for 12x142mm thru-axle frames and centerlock rotors, driven by ENVE's INNERDRIVE ratchet. This one is fitted with the 40-tooth ratchet and comes with either a SRAM XDR or a Shimano Micro Spline freehub, at around 216 to 224 grams.
Buy it as a hub, or build it into a rear wheel in our Custom Wheel Program and we will lace, tension and true it in Georgia.
Design and construction
INNERDRIVE is ENVE's star-ratchet drive: two oversized 42mm steel ratchets pressed together by a spring, rather than pawls on a drive ring. Wolf Tooth machines the shell around it from 7075-T6, with a tall drive-side flange - 51mm across the spoke holes against 40mm on the rotor side - to stand the drive-side spokes up and even out the tension across the dished wheel.
The ratchets are interchangeable. Wolf Tooth offers 40, 60, 80 and 100 teeth; this listing carries the 40-tooth, the lowest-drag option of the four.
How it rides
A 40-tooth ratchet engages every 9 degrees. That is slower to bite than a mountain hub, and on the road that is the point: fewer, larger teeth mean less freehub drag when you coast and a quieter buzz. The big steel ratchet faces spread the load, so sprints and steep gravel climbs do not depend on a few small pawl tips.
Riders who want quicker pickup on technical gravel can swap to a higher tooth count later; Wolf Tooth publishes the service steps.

This listing
The 24-hole, 12x142mm centerlock rear with the 40-tooth ratchet. Pick the freehub - SRAM XDR or Shimano Micro Spline - and the color: black, gold or ultraviolet purple.
Wolf Tooth also makes HG and Campagnolo N3W freehubs and other ratchet counts for this shell; we list the versions our distributor carries, and the freehub can be changed later.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
Fits 12x142mm thru-axle road and gravel frames with centerlock rotors. On the XDR freehub, Wolf Tooth notes that an XD mountain cassette (SRAM Eagle or T-Type) needs a 1.8mm spacer behind it; a road XDR cassette fits straight on. Micro Spline takes Shimano's 12-speed mountain cassettes.
Straight-pull spokes only, bladed up to 2.6mm wide, so Sapim CX-Ray is the natural choice. Our configurator offers 24-hole rims only with this hub.
Build a wheel around it
Offered for road disc, gravel and touring builds in our Custom Wheel Program. Start with the Wolf Tooth Road Gravel Rear Straight Pull Centerlock Disc Hub and the configurator pins it for you, then checks each choice you make against it.
What Wolf Tooth says about testing
Wolf Tooth says its hub shells, machined in the USA, "have been thoroughly tested in the lab and in the field", and that the ENVE INNERDRIVE internals "have also undergone thorough testing in real world conditions, races and all types of weather". INNERDRIVE is ENVE's own hub drive system. Wolf Tooth does not publish bearing-life, salt-spray or ISO 4210 figures for these hubs.

Everything in this section is published by Wolf Tooth. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the hub reaches us as the maker ships it.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Wolf Tooth makes the hub; ProWheelBuilder, an independent builder in Georgia, laces it. A dished rear with a 51mm drive-side flange is built to balance the tension across the two sides as far as the geometry allows, in stages with a gauge, then stress-relieved and trued, with every spoke cut to your rim's measured ERD.
The configurator strikes through anything that does not fit - J-bend spokes, 28 or 32-hole rims.
Warranty
Wolf Tooth's warranty. Wolf Tooth warrants its hubs against defects in material or workmanship for five years from purchase, to the original owner and with proof of purchase, repairing or replacing the defective parts at its discretion. Bearings, normal wear including fading of the anodized finish, routine maintenance and improper installation or use are not covered, and Wolf Tooth asks to be contacted before anything is returned.
ProWheelBuilder. Our one-year wheel warranty applies to any wheel we build around this part, alongside whatever the manufacturer offers. Inside that year, broken spokes are replaced no matter how they broke, and the wheel labor is ours - truing, re-tensioning or a full rebuild. A rim or hub failure that the maker covers, we claim for you and see through; one the maker declines, we answer with an eligible replacement at 25% off current retail. Shipping both ways is yours, and components you supply yourself fall outside this cover.

Road Gravel Rear Straight Pull Centerlock Disc Hub questions
XDR or Micro Spline?
Match your cassette. SRAM road and gravel 12-speed cassettes use XDR; Shimano 12-speed mountain cassettes use Micro Spline. An Eagle or T-Type cassette also fits XDR with the 1.8mm spacer Wolf Tooth specifies.
What does the 40-tooth ratchet mean?
It engages every 9 degrees and has the fewest teeth of Wolf Tooth's options. 60, 80 and 100-tooth ratchets engage faster and can be swapped in later.
Can I get a Shimano HG freehub?
Wolf Tooth makes one, but our distributor does not carry it on this hub yet. Text us if you need it and we will see what can be done.
Will it fit a 135mm quick-release frame?
No - it is a 12x142mm thru-axle hub.
Is a matching front available?
Yes, the Wolf Tooth Road Gravel Front, 24 holes, 12x100mm, in the same colors.
