DT Swiss E 470 Disc Brake Rim
The DT Swiss E 470 is the road rim for riders whose rides keep getting longer and rougher. DT built it for endurance road: a 24 mm inner width on a 20 mm profile, 469 g in 700c, with an angular shape that lets a modern 30 to 35 mm road tire sit round and supported instead of pinched.
This page covers the DT Swiss E 470 Disc Brake Rim in 29in (700c), 24h/28h/32h drilling. We build it to order on the hub and spokes you choose; it is not sold loose from this listing.
Design and construction
The E 470 is a sleeve-joined aluminum rim with a hooked tubeless bead, drilled without eyelets to keep weight down. Its outer width is 27.8 mm, so the rim stays close to the tire on the sidewall and the tire, not the rim edge, takes the hits. DT rates it ASTM class 2 with a 120 kg maximum system weight, and approves it for e-bikes up to 32 km/h or 250 W.
How it rides
Built up on a good hub the E 470 makes a wheel that feels calm on chip-seal and broken pavement. The wider bed lets you drop tire pressure without the tire squirming, which is where the comfort on a long day actually comes from. It is not an aero rim and does not pretend to be; it is the everyday disc road and all-road wheel that you stop thinking about.
If you ride long road miles, commute on a disc road bike or want one wheelset for pavement and the odd gravel connector, the E 470 is the alloy rim to look at first. Riders who spend most of their time on gravel should look at the G 500 instead.

About this listing
Version notes. 29in (700c), 24h/28h/32h, about 469g, 24mm inside, 20mm deep, disc. The size and drilling options on this page are the ones our distributor stocks; anything it runs out of is marked unavailable until it is back.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The DT Swiss E 470 Disc Brake Rim comes in 29in (700c) with 24h/28h/32h drilling and is a disc-brake rim. At 24 mm inside it suits road tires from about 28 mm up to the wider all-road sizes. Pick your bike type and weight in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern for this rim.
Build it with us
We build this rim to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the DT Swiss E 470 Disc Brake Rim already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for gravel and road disc, track and single-speed road and touring builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
Testing, standards and warranty at DT Swiss
DT Swiss tests rims as part of complete wheels in its Performance Test Center in Biel. DT Swiss states that test methods and parameters vary with the intended use, the maximum system weight and the ASTM F 2043 riding conditions, and are written into an internal factory standard which "ensures compliance with the current international standards (e.g. ISO 4210)". Published methods include a wheel impact test (with and without tire, monitoring rim buckling, spoke tension and run-out), a drum test in which a wheel loaded to its permissible system weight rolls over obstacles on a steel drum for a set mileage, a lateral stiffness test and a burst pressure test. No impact energies or cycle counts are published.
Each rim page states a maximum system weight and ASTM classification: the R 460 road rim is rated "Max. System weight 110 kg", "ASTM classification 1" and not approved for e-bikes; the RR 481 is rated 130 kg, ASTM classification 2 and "Approved for e-bikes Yes (max. 32Km/h or max. 250W)".

The figures, certificates and media above are DT Swiss's own. ProWheelBuilder does not run these tests; our part is the wheel we build on the rim.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
DT Swiss makes the E 470; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. We measure the rim before we cut a spoke, bring the wheel up in three or four rounds with a tension gauge, stress-relieve it between rounds and true it last, then tape it and fit a valve if you want it tubeless.
Only compatible hubs and spokes appear in the configurator, impossible combinations are struck through rather than hidden, and the price is live.
Warranty
DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.
ProWheelBuilder. If we lace this into a wheel for you, that wheel also carries ProWheelBuilder's own one-year warranty, which covers broken spokes regardless of cause and all wheel-related labor, including truing and rebuilding, for a year from purchase. Where a rim or hub is covered by its maker, we make the manufacturer's claim for you and coordinate it; where it is not, we offer an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off current retail. Shipping to and from us is the customer's. This cover does not extend to wheels built from components you supply yourself.

E 470 Disc Brake Rim questions
Is the E 470 a gravel rim?
It sits between road and gravel. DT lists it as an endurance road rim; the G 500 is its gravel sibling with a 26 mm bed.
How does the E 470 compare with the R 470?
Both are DT alloy disc road rims. The E 470 has the wider 24 mm bed for bigger tires; the R 470 is narrower and aimed at classic road widths.
Is it tubeless-ready?
Yes. DT Swiss lists the E 470 as tubeless; we tape it and fit a valve when you choose the tubeless option.
Which spoke count should I choose?
It depends on your weight, terrain and the hub, not the rim alone. The configurator recommends a count from your bike type and weight.
