Nextie Premium CRX carbon rim
The CRX is the modern Premium road rim: a 21mm inner width that suits today's 25 to 32mm tires, in 33, 45, 55 and 70mm depths. It spans everything from a 335-gram climbing rim to a 70mm time-trial section, for disc or rim brakes, in the Premium edition with a three-year warranty.
Nextie designs and molds the rim; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. We build it into a complete wheel: pick the hub, spokes, nipples and lacing in the configurator and it ships laced, tensioned and trued.
Who it is for
The CRX is for the road rider on a modern tire. The 33mm is the climber's rim and the lightest in the series; the 45mm is the do-everything depth; the 55mm is for fast group rides and road racing; the 70mm is for time trials, triathlon and flat courses. Drillings run from 20 to 36 holes, and like the RX it is offered for rim brakes as well as disc.
Sizes, weights and prices
4 sizes, in 29in / 700c, drilled 20h, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h. Rim weights are Nextie's published figures; ERD is the effective rim diameter we cut spokes to, listed per wheel size.
| Size | Wheel | Inner width | Depth | ERD | Weight | Tire range | Drilling | Rim price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CRX 33 | 29in / 700c | 21mm | 33mm | 570 | 335g | 25-47mm | 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 | $265 |
| CRX 45 | 29in / 700c | 21mm | 45mm | 550 | 360g | 25-47mm | 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 | $280 |
| CRX 55 | 29in / 700c | 21mm | 55mm | 530 | 395g | 25-47mm | 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 | $290 |
| CRX 70 | 29in / 700c | 21mm | 70mm | 530 | 530g | 25-47mm | 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 | $305 |
How it compares
The RX is the narrower 19mm option for 23 to 28mm tires. The CRX-W keeps a similar bed and adds the wave edge for crosswind stability at 45 and 60mm. For tires of 30mm and wider, the ARX-W moves to a 25mm bed. The Supreme Alpha is the lighter, UCI-approved step up.
What the designations mean
Standard, Premium and Supreme
Nextie builds every rim in one of three editions. The mold is the same; the carbon grade, the spoke-bed process, the tolerances and the warranty step up with each tier.
| Standard | Premium | Supreme | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon fiber | Full Toray T700 | T700 with high-modulus T800 | T800 with ultra-light T1000 |

Series codes
Every size in the list carries Nextie's own series code. Road and gravel codes are width classes, which set the tire size and the aero profile; MTB codes are duty cycles.
| Premium | Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. |
|---|---|
| CRX | Modern road / all-road: a 21mm internal bed that optimises aero flow and stability with today's 25-28c tires. |
Material and construction
The Nextie Premium CRX is molded from carbon fiber in Nextie's Xiamen factory, in a UD (unidirectional) weave with a matte finish. Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. The bed is tubeless-ready. Nextie rates these sizes for a maximum system weight of 137Kg; 149Kg; 159Kg; 174Kg (rider plus bike and gear).
How Nextie tests the Premium CRX
Nextie publishes its own lab results rather than a marketing line. Rims are impact-tested on a drop hammer to the UCI wheel-approval protocol and beyond it (a weighted hammer dropped onto the built, tensioned wheel until the rim fails, the energy recorded in joules), checked for positive and lateral stiffness under load, pulled to destruction at the spoke hole, measured for runout and roundness as a built wheel, and heat-soaked at 80°C for four hours. Every edition also carries a roundness and flatness tolerance, an ASTM riding-condition rating, a maximum system weight and a factory warranty, listed below.
Premium road rims are Toray T800 and T700 with rigidity and deflection controlled within 0.2mm, rated ASTM condition 2 with a maximum system weight of 151kg on the ARX sizes. Nextie publishes tire-pressure limits per bed: on the hooked ARX, 30 to 88psi for road, 27 to 77psi for gravel and 25 to 53psi for cyclocross tires; on the hookless bed 29 to 61psi road. They share the factory's drop-hammer, stiffness and spoke-hole protocol with the Alpha rims above and carry a three-year warranty; the NXT45RC road rim holds its own UCI approval certificate.
Certifications
The UCI's wheel approval procedure is the only independent certification that exists for bicycle rims: a wheel built on the rim is impact-tested and inspected under the UCI's protocol before it may be raced in UCI-sanctioned road, cyclocross and gravel events, and the certificate is published. Nextie has held UCI approval since September 2021 and adds models each year; it also states that its factory holds SGS test certification and industry production-system certifications, and it rates every rim to an ASTM riding-condition class.
Nextie's first UCI-approved rim, the 45mm NXT45RC (September 2021), came out of the same Premium road program; the CRX sizes do not carry their own certificate.

Weight
Weights run from 335g for the CRX 33 to 530g for the CRX 70. Rim weight is rotating weight at the outside of the wheel, so a gram saved here is felt more than a gram saved on the frame. The 21mm inner width decides the tire.
Value
The CRX gives you the same 21mm bed and depth choices as road rims costing two or three times as much, molded by Nextie and sold direct with a three-year warranty. Built here into a wheel set on the hub you choose, a deep carbon road wheel stops being a splurge.
How we build it
Choose the size, the wheel diameter and a drilling (20h, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h), and the configurator only offers hubs, spokes and lacing patterns that can actually be built with that combination. Start a build with the Nextie Premium CRX and the Custom Wheel Program opens with this rim already selected; from this page, the Build button carries the size, drilling and diameter you picked straight into the build. You can also send us a rim you already own with the supply-your-own option.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Built into a wheel by us, this part is covered by our own one-year wheel warranty on top of the maker's. For a year we replace broken spokes whatever caused them, and we cover the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild if it needs one. If a rim or hub fails and its maker covers it, we run that claim for you; if the maker says no, you get an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off retail. You pay the shipping each way. Wheels built from parts you send us are excluded.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Nextie Premium CRX questions
Which CRX depth should I choose?
Pick by your roads and the wind. The 33mm is the lightest at 335 grams, for climbing; the 45mm is the all-round depth; the 55mm and 70mm are faster on flat roads but catch more crosswind. If crosswinds worry you at 45mm or deeper, look at the wave-edge CRX-W.
Is the CRX available for rim brakes?
Yes. Like the RX, the CRX is offered with a rim-brake track or for disc brakes.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Premium CRX?
No. Nextie designs and manufactures the rim. ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia: we buy the rim from Nextie and build it into a finished wheel to your spec.
Can I buy the Nextie Premium CRX on its own?
No. We supply Nextie rims only as part of a wheel we build, so every rim is laced, tensioned and trued here before it ships.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
