Nextie Premium CRX-W carbon rim

The CRX-W takes the modern 22mm road bed and adds Nextie's wave edge, in 45mm at 345 grams and 60mm at 415 grams. It is the road rim for riders who want a deep section that stays composed when the wind comes across the road.

Nextie designs and molds the rim; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. We build it into a complete wheel: pick the hub, spokes, nipples and lacing in the configurator and it ships laced, tensioned and trued.

Who it is for

The CRX-W is for road racers and fast group riders on 26 to 32mm tires who ride in exposed country. The 45mm is a deep all-round wheel that handles like a shallower one; the 60mm is the flat-road and time-trial rim with the wave edge doing its work in gusts. Disc brake, 24-hole.

Sizes, weights and prices

2 sizes, in 29in / 700c, drilled 24h. Rim weights are Nextie's published figures; ERD is the effective rim diameter we cut spokes to, listed per wheel size.

How it compares

The plain CRX covers similar depths without the wave edge and adds rim-brake and other drilling options. The ARX-W carries the wave edge on a wider 25mm bed for bigger tires. The narrow RX is the classic 19mm road choice.

What the designations mean

Standard, Premium and Supreme

Nextie builds every rim in one of three editions. The mold is the same; the carbon grade, the spoke-bed process, the tolerances and the warranty step up with each tier.

Series codes

Every size in the list carries Nextie's own series code. Road and gravel codes are width classes, which set the tire size and the aero profile; MTB codes are duty cycles.

PremiumPremium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance.
ARX-W / CRX-W / SGX-WThe -W suffix is Nextie's wave-edge profile: the outer edge undulates to keep a deep section steady in crosswinds. The bed is the same as the plain series.

Material and construction

The Nextie Premium CRX-W is molded from carbon fiber in Nextie's Xiamen factory, in a UD (unidirectional) weave with a matte finish. Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. The bed is tubeless-ready. Nextie rates these sizes for a maximum system weight of 144Kg; 159Kg (rider plus bike and gear).

How Nextie tests the Premium CRX-W

Nextie publishes its own lab results rather than a marketing line. Rims are impact-tested on a drop hammer to the UCI wheel-approval protocol and beyond it (a weighted hammer dropped onto the built, tensioned wheel until the rim fails, the energy recorded in joules), checked for positive and lateral stiffness under load, pulled to destruction at the spoke hole, measured for runout and roundness as a built wheel, and heat-soaked at 80°C for four hours. Every edition also carries a roundness and flatness tolerance, an ASTM riding-condition rating, a maximum system weight and a factory warranty, listed below.

Premium road rims are Toray T800 and T700 with rigidity and deflection controlled within 0.2mm, rated ASTM condition 2 with a maximum system weight of 151kg on the ARX sizes. Nextie publishes tire-pressure limits per bed: on the hooked ARX, 30 to 88psi for road, 27 to 77psi for gravel and 25 to 53psi for cyclocross tires; on the hookless bed 29 to 61psi road. They share the factory's drop-hammer, stiffness and spoke-hole protocol with the Alpha rims above and carry a three-year warranty; the NXT45RC road rim holds its own UCI approval certificate.

Certifications

The UCI's wheel approval procedure is the only independent certification that exists for bicycle rims: a wheel built on the rim is impact-tested and inspected under the UCI's protocol before it may be raced in UCI-sanctioned road, cyclocross and gravel events, and the certificate is published. Nextie has held UCI approval since September 2021 and adds models each year; it also states that its factory holds SGS test certification and industry production-system certifications, and it rates every rim to an ASTM riding-condition class.

The CRX-W sizes do not carry their own UCI certificate; Nextie's first approval, the NXT45RC (September 2021), came from the same Premium road program.

Weight

Weights run from 345g for the CRX-W 45 to 415g for the CRX-W 60. Rim weight is rotating weight at the outside of the wheel, so a gram saved here is felt more than a gram saved on the frame. The 22mm inner width decides the tire.

Value

A deep, wave-edged carbon road rim with a three-year warranty, direct from Nextie's molds, at a price the big brands reserve for alloy. Built here on the hub you choose, the CRX-W makes a crosswind-friendly race wheel set without the race-wheel price.

How we build it

Choose the size, the wheel diameter and a drilling (24h), and the configurator only offers hubs, spokes and lacing patterns that can actually be built with that combination. Start a build with the Nextie Premium CRX-W and the Custom Wheel Program opens with this rim already selected; from this page, the Build button carries the size, drilling and diameter you picked straight into the build. You can also send us a rim you already own with the supply-your-own option.

Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Nextie Premium CRX-W questions

Should I choose the CRX or the CRX-W?

If you ride deep rims in crosswinds, the CRX-W's wave edge is designed to keep the front wheel calmer. If you want rim brakes, a drilling other than 24 holes, or a 33mm or 70mm depth, choose the plain CRX.

What tires fit the CRX-W?

Nextie lists 26 to 49mm. The 22mm bed is happiest with 28 to 32mm road tires.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Premium CRX-W?

No. Nextie designs and manufactures the rim. ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia: we buy the rim from Nextie and build it into a finished wheel to your spec.

Can I buy the Nextie Premium CRX-W on its own?

No. We supply Nextie rims only as part of a wheel we build, so every rim is laced, tensioned and trued here before it ships.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
