Nextie Premium RX carbon rim
The RX is Nextie's classic road rim: a 19mm inner width for 23 to 28mm tires, five depths from 35 to 60mm, and the widest choice of drillings and brakes in the Nextie line. It is one of two Nextie series we offer for rim brakes as well as disc (the CRX is the other), and at 340 grams in the 35mm it is a light Premium-edition rim.
Nextie designs and molds the rim; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer. We build it into a complete wheel: pick the hub, spokes, nipples and lacing in the configurator and it ships laced, tensioned and trued.
Who it is for
The RX is for the road rider on a narrower tire, and for the rider with a rim-brake bike who still wants carbon. Pick 35 or 40mm for climbing, 45 or 50mm for an all-round road wheel, or 60mm for flat, fast roads. Drilled from 20 to 36 holes, it builds a light 20-hole front or a 32- or 36-hole rear for a heavier rider on the same rim.
Sizes, weights and prices
5 sizes, in 29in / 700c, drilled 20h, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h. Rim weights are Nextie's published figures; ERD is the effective rim diameter we cut spokes to, listed per wheel size.

How it compares
The CRX moves to a 21mm bed for 25 to 32mm tires and adds a 70mm depth. The CRX-W and ARX-W add the wave edge for crosswinds, disc only. In the Supreme edition, the Alpha and Ripple are the lighter road rims.
What the designations mean
Standard, Premium and Supreme
Nextie builds every rim in one of three editions. The mold is the same; the carbon grade, the spoke-bed process, the tolerances and the warranty step up with each tier.
| Standard | Premium | Supreme | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon fiber | Full Toray T700 | T700 with high-modulus T800 | T800 with ultra-light T1000 |
| Spoke bed | Standard layup | Independent mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness | Advanced Single-Point independent mold |
| Roundness / flatness | within 0.25mm | within 0.20mm | within 0.15mm |
| Factory warranty | 2 years | 3 years | 5 years |
| Built for | Reliable, cost-effective baseline | Balanced stiffness, deflection control and weight | Minimum weight with maximum impact resistance |

Series codes
Every size in the list carries Nextie's own series code. Road and gravel codes are width classes, which set the tire size and the aero profile; MTB codes are duty cycles.
| Premium | Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. |
|---|---|
| RX | Classic road: an 18-19mm internal bed for traditional 23-25c tires, built for low weight and quick acceleration. |
Material and construction
The Nextie Premium RX is molded from carbon fiber in Nextie's Xiamen factory, in a UD (unidirectional) weave with a matte finish. Premium is Nextie's balanced edition: a T700 and high-modulus T800 carbon mix, an independent spoke-bed mold for consistent spoke-hole thickness, roundness and flatness within 0.20mm, and a 3-year factory warranty - stiffness, deflection control and weight in balance. The bed is tubeless-ready. Nextie rates these sizes for a maximum system weight of 137Kg; 142Kg; 147Kg; 152Kg; 162Kg (rider plus bike and gear).
How Nextie tests the Premium RX
Nextie publishes its own lab results rather than a marketing line. Rims are impact-tested on a drop hammer to the UCI wheel-approval protocol and beyond it (a weighted hammer dropped onto the built, tensioned wheel until the rim fails, the energy recorded in joules), checked for positive and lateral stiffness under load, pulled to destruction at the spoke hole, measured for runout and roundness as a built wheel, and heat-soaked at 80°C for four hours. Every edition also carries a roundness and flatness tolerance, an ASTM riding-condition rating, a maximum system weight and a factory warranty, listed below.
Premium road rims are Toray T800 and T700 with rigidity and deflection controlled within 0.2mm, rated ASTM condition 2 with a maximum system weight of 151kg on the ARX sizes. Nextie publishes tire-pressure limits per bed: on the hooked ARX, 30 to 88psi for road, 27 to 77psi for gravel and 25 to 53psi for cyclocross tires; on the hookless bed 29 to 61psi road. They share the factory's drop-hammer, stiffness and spoke-hole protocol with the Alpha rims above and carry a three-year warranty; the NXT45RC road rim holds its own UCI approval certificate.
Certifications
The UCI's wheel approval procedure is the only independent certification that exists for bicycle rims: a wheel built on the rim is impact-tested and inspected under the UCI's protocol before it may be raced in UCI-sanctioned road, cyclocross and gravel events, and the certificate is published. Nextie has held UCI approval since September 2021 and adds models each year; it also states that its factory holds SGS test certification and industry production-system certifications, and it rates every rim to an ASTM riding-condition class.
Nextie's first UCI-approved rim, the 45mm NXT45RC (September 2021), came out of the same Premium road program; the RX sizes do not carry their own certificate.

Weight
Weights run from 340g for the RX 35 to 415g for the RX 60. Rim weight is rotating weight at the outside of the wheel, so a gram saved here is felt more than a gram saved on the frame. The 19mm inner width decides the tire.
Value
The RX is the shortest path to a carbon road wheel set. Premium-edition T700 and T800 carbon, a three-year warranty and a tubeless-ready bed, direct from Nextie's molds, at a price close to what the big brands charge for alloy; built here on the hub you choose, it is the least expensive carbon road wheel in the catalog.
How we build it
Choose the size, the wheel diameter and a drilling (20h, 24h, 28h, 32h, 36h), and the configurator only offers hubs, spokes and lacing patterns that can actually be built with that combination. Start a build with the Nextie Premium RX and the Custom Wheel Program opens with this rim already selected; from this page, the Build button carries the size, drilling and diameter you picked straight into the build. You can also send us a rim you already own with the supply-your-own option.
Spoke head is decided by the hub, not the rim: this rim builds equally well with J-bend or straight-pull spokes, and the configurator only offers the spokes that match the hub you pick.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Nextie Premium RX questions
Can I get the RX for rim brakes?
Yes. The RX is offered with a rim-brake track as well as for disc brakes. Choose the brake type on this page or in the configurator, and we build it on a matching hub.
Is a 19mm inner width too narrow for modern tires?
It suits 23 to 28mm tires best, which is what the RX is for. Nextie lists tires from 22 to 40mm, but if you run 30mm or wider most of the time, the 21mm CRX or a 25mm bed will hold the tire's shape better.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Nextie Premium RX?
No. Nextie designs and manufactures the rim. ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia: we buy the rim from Nextie and build it into a finished wheel to your spec.
Can I buy the Nextie Premium RX on its own?
No. We supply Nextie rims only as part of a wheel we build, so every rim is laced, tensioned and trued here before it ships.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
