Nextie Rollingstar III Road Front Centerlock Disc Hub

This page covers the Nextie Rollingstar III Road Front Centerlock Disc Hub, in 12 x 100 front and 12 x 142 rear road spacing with a centerlock rotor mount.

At about 230g for the pair it sits with the boutique European road hubs on the scale, and it is the hub we build into Nextie Alpha and Ripple road wheel sets when the customer wants the lightest carbon road wheel the catalog can make. Nextie makes the hub; ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not the manufacturer, and we sell it only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie road wheel set.

Design and construction

The bearings are ceramic hybrids: steel races and silicon-nitride balls, harder and rounder than steel, with noticeably less drag.

Twenty or 24 spokes is the choice: 20 for lighter riders on a race wheel, 24 for everyday road use and heavier riders.

A front hub is a bearing carrier with flanges, and that is the whole job of the front Rollingstar III: two sealed bearings on a stiff axle, end caps for your fork's standard, and flanges spaced to give the spokes a good bracing angle on the rotor side. There is nothing to engage and nothing to swap. Everything written about freehubs and engagement applies to the rear hub only; what you get up front is the same shell quality and the same seals without any of the moving parts.

How it rides

Spin a Rollingstar III and you understand what ceramic bearings are for: it feels frictionless. It is a race and fast-road hub; for gravel, touring and heavier riders the Rollingstar II with 28 spokes is the sensible choice.

On the road or the trail the front hub's job is to disappear: spin freely, keep water out, and hold the flanges still so the wheel tracks where you point it. The front Rollingstar III does that with the same bearings and seals as the rear and none of the rear's complexity, and because a front wheel carries less load and no torque it stays true longer than the rear on the same rim. When the rear finally needs a look, the front usually does not.

This listing

This is the centerlock version: Thru Axle 12x100mm, 20h, 24h drilling, about 100g, in black. Same internals and flanges as every other Rollingstar III; only the mount and axle differ.

Centerlock is the lighter, quicker rotor mount: a splined rotor drops onto the hub and a single lockring holds it, so a rotor swap takes a minute with a lockring tool and there are no six small bolts to torque or lose. Shimano and most current road and gravel rotors are centerlock; 6-bolt rotors fit with an adapter.

Sizes, fit and compatibility

The Nextie Rollingstar III Road Front Centerlock Disc Hub is sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie road wheel set. We build most Rollingstar III wheels with Sapim CX-Ray straight-pull spokes and alloy or brass nipples.

It pairs with the Nextie road rims on this site, the Supreme Alpha and Ripple and the Premium ARX, CRX and RX; choose the rim first and the configurator offers the matching hub pair.

What Nextie says about testing

Nextie publishes engineering drawings rather than lab figures for the Rollingstar hubs: full profile drawings with flange diameters, center-to-flange distances, spoke hole diameters and spoke hole offsets for every axle standard, and exploded-view drawings that name every part down to the bearing codes (6802 and 15267 cartridge bearings, AL7075 weldless-tube axles, AL6061 forged shells and end caps). The dimensions on this page are taken from those drawings.

Nextie states that its factory in Xiamen runs a quality-control framework from raw-material inspection through in-process control to finished-product testing, holds SGS test certification and industry production-system certifications, and has held UCI wheel approval since September 2021 for wheels built on its rims. The Rollingstar II uses stainless-steel cartridge bearings and the Rollingstar III ceramic-hybrid bearings; both are sold with Nextie's hub warranty and a full spare-parts list.

Certifications

  • UCI wheel approval — Held by Nextie since September 2021 for wheels built on its road and gravel rims (NXT45RC 2021, Alpha 50 October 2025, Alpha 40 May 2026, Alpha 45G and 55G July 2026); no hub-specific certification exists (source)
  • SGS test certification and production-system certifications — Stated by Nextie for its factory (source)

Everything in this section is published by Nextie. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the hub reaches us as the maker ships it.

Building it at ProWheelBuilder

Nextie makes the Rollingstar III; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every Rollingstar III wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.

In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty. Nextie warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Nextie and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.

ProWheelBuilder. Built into a wheel by us, this part is covered by our own one-year wheel warranty on top of the maker's. For a year we replace broken spokes whatever caused them, and we cover the labor on the wheel - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild if it needs one. If a rim or hub fails and its maker covers it, we run that claim for you; if the maker says no, you get an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off retail. You pay the shipping each way. Wheels built from parts you send us are excluded.

Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.

Rollingstar III Road Front Centerlock Disc Hub questions

Will my rotors fit this hub?

This is the centerlock version, so a splined centerlock rotor drops on and a lockring holds it - one tool, no six bolts to torque or lose. If your rotors are 6-bolt they will fit with a centerlock adapter, or take the 6-bolt version of the same hub, which is a separate listing.

Can I buy the Rollingstar III on its own?

No. Nextie hubs are sold here only as a front and rear pair inside a complete Nextie wheel set we build.

Does it need special spokes?

Yes, straight-pull spokes; the configurator filters the list automatically when you pick this hub.

Which axle spacing does it fit?

Thru Axle 12x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.

How long will the wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
