White Industries Dos ENO Freewheel
The Dos ENO is the two-sprocket version of the ENO freewheel, and it solves a specific problem: a single-speed bike that needs a second gear for one climb, one headwind or one loaded day, without adding a derailleur, shifter and cable to a bike chosen for not having them.
Design and construction
You get two cogs on one freewheel body and you change between them by hand, moving the chain across and taking up the slack - the arrangement riders usually call dinglespeed. Pick the pairing so the chain tension works at both ends and a single chain length covers both gears. It is a deliberate, stop-and-do-it change rather than a shift on the move, which is exactly what suits a bike built around simplicity.
Like the single ENO it is a rebuildable mechanism rather than a sealed disposable one, and it offers the same engagement choice: 36 points and ten degrees of pickup, or 72 points and five.
White Industries has machined its components in Petaluma, California since 1978, and the company founded by Doug White still takes parts from raw bar stock to finished component in its own shop rather than farming the work out. That matters most on parts like this one, where the tolerances are small, the part is expected to be serviced rather than binned, and spares are still available years later. They even send it in recyclable packaging, which tells you something about how the place thinks.
Fit and compatibility
Steel, about 196g - a little heavier than the single ENO, which is the second sprocket. Tooth pairings of 16/18 or 17/19. Engagement is 36-point/10-degree standard or 72-point/5-degree high engagement, and the lockring comes in black, blue, gold, pink, purple or silver.

Dos ENO freewheel questions
How do I change gear?
By hand, off the bike or stopped: lift the chain across to the other sprocket and reset the tension. There is no shifter and no derailleur.
Will one chain length cover both sprockets?
That is what the two-tooth spacing of the 16/18 and 17/19 pairings is for. With an eccentric hub or sliding dropouts to take up the difference it works cleanly.
Can I run it with a tensioner?
Riders do, and it makes the change easier. On an eccentric ENO hub you generally do not need one.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the White Industries Dos ENO Freewheel?
No. White Industries designs and manufactures it in Petaluma, California. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia that stocks the part and fits it to the wheels we build.
