White Industries ENO Freewheel Removal Tool
The dedicated remover for the ENO freewheel. Freewheel removers are not universal: each pattern has its own spline or notch arrangement, and using one that nearly fits is how freewheels end up permanently attached to wheels.
Design and construction
A freewheel is unthreaded against the full force of every mile you have ever pedalled, which is why the remover has to engage completely before any load goes through it. A near-fit concentrates that force on a couple of contact points and rounds them out, and at that point the freewheel is not coming off without damage.
About 150g - substantial, because it is a tool that has to take real torque without flexing.
White Industries has machined its components in Petaluma, California since 1978, and the company founded by Doug White still takes parts from raw bar stock to finished component in its own shop rather than farming the work out. That matters most on parts like this one, where the tolerances are small, the part is expected to be serviced rather than binned, and spares are still available years later. They even send it in recyclable packaging, which tells you something about how the place thinks.

ENO freewheel removal tool questions
Can I use a standard freewheel remover?
Only if it is genuinely the same pattern. A remover that nearly fits will round the splines under load, and a rounded freewheel is a difficult problem to solve afterwards.
Do I need it just to service the freewheel?
You need it to get the freewheel off the hub. The ENO is rebuildable, so if you intend to look after it rather than replace it, this tool is part of the kit.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the White Industries ENO Freewheel Removal Tool?
No. White Industries designs and manufactures it in Petaluma, California. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia that stocks the part and fits it to the wheels we build.
Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
