White Industries Shimano Micro Spline TI Cassette Driver Body

The titanium Micro Spline driver body for White Industries rear hubs. Micro Spline is Shimano's 12-speed mountain interface, and the reason it exists is the small sprocket: the traditional Hyperglide spline is physically too big to let a 10-tooth cog fit over it, so Shimano cut a smaller, finer spline to make the wide-range 12-speed cassettes possible.

Design and construction

That finer spline is exactly why the material matters here. The smaller the spline, the less metal is carrying the same pedalling load, and an aluminum Micro Spline body gets chewed noticeably faster than an aluminum HG one. Machining it from titanium keeps the spline edges sharp under the torque a low gear puts through them, which is the load case this interface sees most - climbing, in the biggest sprocket, on a loaded bike.

This is made in Petaluma, California, by a company that has been machining its own parts since 1978 rather than outsourcing them. On a small, high-tolerance component that is the whole difference - between a part designed to be serviced and kept, and one designed to be replaced and forgotten.

Fit and compatibility

White Industries list it as driver type Shimano Micro Spline, part DRIVER15TMS11, about 85g. It takes Shimano 12-speed Micro Spline cassettes and nothing else - Micro Spline is not cross-compatible with HG, XD/XDR or Campagnolo.

Shimano Micro Spline TI cassette driver body questions

Why can't I just use an HG body with a 12-speed cassette?

Because of the 10-tooth sprocket. A 10-tooth cog has a smaller inside diameter than the HG spline it would have to fit over, so the interface had to shrink. If your cassette's smallest sprocket is 11 teeth, you are probably on HG.

Will this fit my White Industries hub?

It fits the White Industries rear hubs built around their 15mm driver interface, which covers the current freehub-equipped models. If you are unsure which driver your hub already has, send us the hub and we will tell you, or text us and describe it.

Can I change driver standards later?

That is the point of a replaceable driver body. Changing drivetrain brand or speed count does not mean a new hub - it means a new driver body, which is a workshop job of minutes rather than a rebuild.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the White Industries Shimano Micro Spline TI Cassette Driver Body?

No. White Industries designs and manufactures it in Petaluma, California. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia that stocks the part and fits it to the wheels we build.
