Bitex FB MTR Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub
The Bitex FB MTR is the fat-bike version of Bitex's mountain rear hub: the same machined aluminum shell, sealed cartridge bearings, pawl freehub with HG and XD bodies and 6-bolt rotor mount, spaced for 177 or 197mm fat frames with a 12mm thru-axle. It engages quickly enough for snow and sand climbing and costs a fraction of a boutique fat hub, which is why the FB MTR is on a lot of the fat wheels we build. This page covers the Bitex FB MTR Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub.
The FB MTR is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The MTR freehub runs pawls on a hardened ratchet ring for quick pickup with a light, even feel, and the bodies pull off for a swap between HG, XD and Micro Spline. Bearings are sealed cartridge units in common sizes; the axle is hollow alloy with swappable end caps; the flanges are spaced wide on the drive side for a stiff wheel. The shell is machined and anodized black, and the FB MTR is the fat-bike version.
How it rides
An FB MTR engages promptly on a snow climb, coasts quietly and shrugs off winter with a clean and regrease each spring. The FB MTR is a trail and winter fat-bike hub; for fat e-bikes we would recommend a heavier-duty hub. For a fat bike at a sensible price, the FB MTR is the Bitex hub we recommend.

This listing
This is the 6-bolt version: QR 5x170mm, Thru Axle 12x177mm, QR 5x190mm, Thru Axle 12x190mm and more, 32h drilling, about 342g, in black, lime green. Same internals and flanges as every other FB MTR fat bike; only the mount and axle differ.
This is the 6-bolt FB MTR fat bike: the rotor bolts to a flange with six T25 bolts, which is the mount most mountain and gravel rotors still use and the easiest to find a rotor for on the road. If you run centerlock rotors, choose the centerlock version of the same hub instead.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Bitex FB MTR Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page in 177 or 197 x 12mm thru-axle spacing with a 6-bolt rotor mount and a Shimano HG or SRAM XD freehub. J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most fat wheels with Sapim Race or DT Competition spokes and brass nipples.
It pairs with the Bitex FB MTF front, and with the HED Big Aluminum Deal, DT Swiss BR 710, Sun Ringle Mulefut and Surly fat rims in the catalog. Pick fat bike as your bike type in the configurator and it recommends a spoke count and lacing pattern for the offset.
Build it with us
We build this hub to order. Open the Custom Wheel Program with the Bitex Fb Mtr Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub already selected and pick the parts around it; it is offered for fat bike builds, and the configurator will not let you assemble a combination we would not build.
What Bitex says about testing
Bitex Industrial Co., Ltd. is a hub manufacturer in Taichung, Taiwan. Its 2023 catalog is titled "HUB FACTORY / MADE IN TAIWAN" and marks "100 Years 1923 ~ 2023", tracing the business from the Valisum Bike Shop (1923) to its renaming as Bitex Industrial Co., Ltd.. Bitex states its hubs use aluminum shells (the BX305 road hubs are listed as "Aluminum 7075"), and each catalog page lists the exact cartridge bearings fitted, for example "2 (6803*2)" in a gravel front hub and "4 (Hub 6902*2 / Freehub 6802+6902)" in the matching rear. Bitex's UK distributor states standard fitment is TPI bearings with an orange contact seal outboard and a black non-contact seal inboard.
Bitex publishes no impact or fatigue figures, ISO certification, rider weight limit or written warranty terms. It does document two patented designs: the 6 Pawls System (Taiwan M519075, Germany Nr. 20 2015 106 474) and the Anti-Bite System (Taiwan M425782, USA US 8,443,951 B1).

Everything in this section is published by Bitex. ProWheelBuilder is the wheel builder, not the tester, and the hub reaches us as the maker ships it.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Bitex makes the FB MTR fat bike; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every FB MTR fat bike wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.
In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.
Warranty
Manufacturer's warranty. Bitex warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship. The duration, conditions and claim process are set by Bitex and can change without notice, so ask us and we will confirm the current terms before you buy.
ProWheelBuilder. Any wheel we build on this part carries ProWheelBuilder's one-year warranty in addition to the manufacturer's. Broken spokes are replaced for a year whatever the cause, and all wheel-side labor is included - truing, re-tensioning, rebuilding. Where the maker covers a failed rim or hub we handle that claim for you; where they decline, an eligible replacement comes at 25% off current retail. The customer covers shipping in both directions. Components supplied by the customer are not covered.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
FB MTR Rear ISO 6 Bolt Disc Hub questions
Will my rotors fit this hub?
This is the 6-bolt version: any ISO 6-bolt rotor bolts straight on with six T25 bolts, which is still the most common and the easiest rotor to replace anywhere. Centerlock rotors do not fit it - for those, take the centerlock version of the same hub, listed separately.
What spacing is the FB MTR?
177 or 197 x 12mm thru-axle, selectable in the configurator.
Which freehub bodies fit?
Shimano HG and SRAM XD.
Is the FB MTR good for winter?
Yes, with a clean and regrease each spring; the sealed bearings and simple pawl internals handle slush and salt.
Is the FB MTR e-bike rated?
No. For fat e-bikes choose a DT Swiss 350 Big Ride or Onyx fat hub.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x170mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x177mm Rear or QR 5x190mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x190mm Rear or Thru Axle 12x197mm Rear. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
