Stan's No Tubes Sealing Tape 21mm x 10 Yards
Stan's sealing tape is what makes a rim airtight. It covers the spoke bed so air cannot escape through the spoke holes, and it is the single component most likely to be blamed for a tubeless setup that will not hold - usually because it is the wrong width or was laid badly.
What it does
Width is the whole decision. The tape has to cover the spoke bed completely and run up far enough on each side to meet the bead seat, with no channel left uncovered at the edges. Too narrow and air finds the gap at the shoulder; too wide and the tape rides up where the bead needs to sit, which stops the tire seating cleanly.
21mm suits narrower rims - most road and a good deal of gravel. Measure the internal width of your rim rather than guessing from the tire you run, because internal width is the number that matters here and it is not what most rims are advertized by.
Ten yards is enough for several wheels, which matters because tape is not really reusable. Once it has been peeled off it has lost its grip and the job wants fresh tape.
Fit and compatibility
For rims with a narrow internal width. Measure the spoke bed, not the tire. If you are having wheels built here we tape them as part of the build and pick the width for you.
Buying it from ProWheelBuilder
We are an independent wheel builder in Georgia, not Stan's No Tubes. We buy this like you do; the difference is we go through a lot of it.
Warranty
Stan's No Tubes's warranty. Stan's covers aluminum rims for two years against manufacturing defects. Registered carbon wheelsets carry seven years of warranty cover plus lifetime crash replacement, and registration must be completed before a wheelset claim can be made. Crash damage, abuse and normal wear are not warranty items.
ProWheelBuilder. Our own one-year warranty is a wheel warranty - it covers wheels we build, not tools or accessories. This item is covered by its manufacturer, as set out above.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Stan's tubeless rim tape 21mm questions
How do I choose between 21mm and 25mm?
By the internal width of the rim. The tape should cover the spoke bed and reach the bead seat on both sides without climbing into it. Tell us the rim and we will say which.
How many wraps?
One good wrap, pulled tight and even, is usually right with Stan's tape. Two wraps are sometimes used to build up a very deep channel, but it is not a fix for the wrong width.
Can I reuse it?
No. Once peeled it will not seal reliably again. Tape is cheap; a tire that goes down on a ride is not.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Stan's No Tubes Sealing Tape 21mm x 10 Yards?
No. Stan's No Tubes designs and manufactures it. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia that stocks it and uses it on the wheels we build.
Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
