DT Swiss Hubs Custom Hand Built Wheels

Custom hand built wheels with DT Swiss hubs

DT Swiss has been making spokes in Biel, Switzerland since the company was spun out of Swiss Metal Works, and its ratchet-driven freehubs and butted spokes are close to a default in the wheelbuilding trade.

We lace DT Swiss hubs to the rim of your choice and build the wheel by hand in our Georgia shop - tensioned evenly, trued flat and round, and stress-relieved before it ships. Spoke lengths are calculated from the measured flange geometry of your exact hub, not estimated from the model name.

The DT Swiss hubs we build with

  • DT Swiss hubs we build with33
  • Spoke headJ-bend and straight-pull
  • Axle spacings100mm, 130mm, 150mm, 197mm
  • Also available6-bolt rotor mount, Boost spacing, Center Lock rotor mount, disc brake, tandem

DT Swiss makes both J-bend and straight-pull hubs, and the two are not interchangeable - a straight-pull hub needs straight-pull spokes, full stop. Pick the hub first in the configurator and the spoke list filters itself to whichever head your hub takes, so the mistake is not available to make.

Axle spacing has to match your frame or fork, and it is the single most common thing people get wrong when ordering a wheel. We build DT Swiss hubs in 100mm, 130mm, 150mm, 197mm. If you are unsure what your frame takes, measure the inside faces of the dropouts before you order, or text us and we will work it out with you.

What to pair with a DT Swiss hub

A wheel is a system: the rim decides the tire and the braking, the hub decides the drivetrain and the axle fit, and the spokes have to suit both. Start from whichever end matters most to you and the configurator will keep the other end compatible.

We also build with DT Swiss Rims, if you want the whole wheel from one maker.

DT Swiss custom wheel questions

Can you build a wheel with a DT Swiss hub I already own?

Yes. Choose the supply-your-own hub option in the configurator, ship it to us, and we will lace it into a new wheel with new spokes cut to the right length for that exact hub. You pay for the parts you need and the build labor.

Do DT Swiss hubs need special spokes?

The straight-pull models do - they take straight-pull spokes only, and the lacing pattern follows the hub's flange geometry rather than being a separate choice. The configurator filters the spoke list to match the hub as soon as you pick it.

Which axle spacing do I need?

Whatever your frame or fork takes - we build DT Swiss hubs in 100mm, 130mm, 150mm, 197mm. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us and we will work it out from your bike.

Can a DT Swiss hub be relaced into a new rim later?

Yes, and it is one of the better arguments for a quality hub. When the rim wears out or cracks, send us the wheel and we will build the hub into a new rim with new spokes. Spokes are not reused - they have taken a set at the old rim's dimensions.

How long will my DT Swiss wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. Your estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out, so you know the date before you pay.

Not sure what to pick? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
