DT Swiss RWS MTB 12mm 142mm Thru Bolt Skewer Rear
The DT Swiss rear thru-bolt mountain skewer, in alloy. It closes by threading rather than by a cam flipping over center, which changes two things: the clamping force is set by how far you thread it rather than by how someone adjusted the nut, and the lever can then be folded to any position you like.
What it does
Where a cam skewer converts a lever swing into clamp through an over-center action, this simply screws shut. Nothing has to be preloaded to the right point first, and nothing changes character as the nut wears.
Riders who tour or commute tend to prefer it for an unglamorous reason: a threaded skewer is harder for somebody else to open quickly in a bike rack.
DT Swiss has been making spokes in Biel, Switzerland since the business was carved out of the old Swiss wire works, and the engineering culture shows most in the dull parts: threads that are rolled rather than cut, tolerances that let a part be serviced instead of replaced, and spares that still exist for hubs sold a decade ago.
Fit and compatibility
Built for a 142mm rear hub taking a 12mm thru axle. Confirm the axle diameter and the over-locknut dimension before ordering; both have to match, not just one.

Warranty
DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.

Will it come loose?
Not if it is threaded up solid. There is no over-center action to creep back through, which is the usual way a cam skewer loosens.
Does the lever position matter?
Only for convenience, which is the whole point. Thread it closed, then fold the lever clear of the rotor, the fork and anything else that might knock it.
