DT Swiss RWS Steel MTB QR Skewer Front
The DT Swiss front quick-release mountain skewer, in steel. It closes by threading rather than by a cam flipping over center, which changes two things: the clamping force is set by how far you thread it rather than by how someone adjusted the nut, and the lever can then be folded to any position you like.
What it does
The practical appeal is that it removes a judgement call. A cam has to be set so that it closes firmly within its arc; a thread just keeps tightening until it stops, and anyone can tell when that has happened.
That second point is more useful than it sounds. A cam lever has to finish within a narrow arc or it is not properly closed, and that arc is often exactly where a rotor, a fork leg or a rack already is. Thread it closed and the argument disappears.
DT Swiss is a Swiss company whose reputation was built on spokes and then extended to hubs, and its components share one habit - they are designed to be opened. That is why there is a catalog of service tools at all; a sealed part would not need one.
Fit and compatibility
For a 100mm front quick-release hub. Axle standards are unforgiving about length, so check yours before ordering, or tell us the frame and hub and we will confirm it.

Warranty
DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.

Is it slower to use than a quick release?
By a couple of seconds. If you take wheels out several times a day that is a real cost; for most riders it is not.
Does the lever position matter?
Only for convenience, which is the whole point. Thread it closed, then fold the lever clear of the rotor, the fork and anything else that might knock it.
