DT Swiss RWS Steel MTB QR Skewer Rear
The DT Swiss rear quick-release mountain skewer, in steel. It closes by threading rather than by a cam flipping over center, which changes two things: the clamping force is set by how far you thread it rather than by how someone adjusted the nut, and the lever can then be folded to any position you like.
What it does
DT's approach here is to treat wheel retention as a threaded fastener rather than a quick-release mechanism. It is slower to operate by a second or two and considerably more consistent, which on a modern disc bike is the right trade.
It also makes the clamp repeatable. Two people setting a cam skewer by feel will not arrive at the same force; two people threading one closed until it is solid will be far closer.
What DT Swiss is unusual for is supporting what it sold. Hubs from several generations back are still serviceable with parts you can order, which is the context for a tool like this: it exists so a hub can be kept rather than replaced.
Fit and compatibility
Suits a 135mm rear quick-release hub. Measure what you have rather than going by the bike's model year - frames changed standard mid-generation more than once.
How we use it at ProWheelBuilder
If you are collecting a wheel in person we will set this with you so you know what solid feels like on your own bike, which is worth more than a torque figure.
ProWheelBuilder builds wheels in Georgia and is not the manufacturer - DT Swiss makes this. We keep it on the bench, which is why the notes above are first-hand rather than copied off a box.
Warranty
DT Swiss's warranty. DT Swiss covers its products against material and manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, excluding wear parts such as bearings and tubeless tape. Carbon rims and carbon wheels bought new since 1 January 2020 carry an extended guarantee to the first owner against defects in material and workmanship, and DT Swiss runs a paid crash-replacement scheme on carbon wheels for up to ten years from purchase.
ProWheelBuilder. Tools and accessories sit outside ProWheelBuilder's one-year wheel warranty, which applies to the wheels we lace. Cover for this item is the manufacturer's.

DT Swiss RWS Steel MTB QR Skewer Rear questions
Can I use it with a trainer or a rack?
Check the length and the end shape against whatever is clamping the bike - some trainers want their own skewer. Tell us the setup and we will say.
Does the lever position matter?
Only for convenience, which is the whole point. Thread it closed, then fold the lever clear of the rotor, the fork and anything else that might knock it.
Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the DT Swiss RWS Steel MTB QR Skewer Rear?
DT Swiss makes it. ProWheelBuilder builds wheels in Georgia and is a customer of theirs, not the manufacturer.
Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
