Salsa Stainless Skewers Rear

Salsa's stainless rear skewer, which is the same part as the front made longer to suit a rear hub's wider spacing. Buying the pair is the usual route; buying the rear on its own is normally either a replacement or somebody finishing a wheelset built at two different times.

What it does

The rear skewer leads a slightly harder life than the front. It sits behind the drivetrain where chain lubricant, road grit and whatever the tire picks up all land, and it is the one that gets undone most often for a puncture or to get the wheel into a car. Stainless is worth having on the end that gets handled.

Seven anodized colors, matched to the front, so a wheelset ends up with a pair rather than two skewers that happen to both be black.

Fit and compatibility

For a standard rear quick-release hub. Thru-axle frames take an axle rather than a skewer - if you are not sure which your frame is, send us a photograph of the dropout.

Salsa stainless rear skewer questions

Will this fit my frame?

It suits a standard quick-release rear dropout. A thru-axle frame needs an axle instead, not a skewer.

Do I need the front as well?

Only if you want the pair. They are sold separately because the lengths differ.

Is ProWheelBuilder the manufacturer of the Salsa Stainless Skewers Rear?

No. Salsa Cycles designs and manufactures it. ProWheelBuilder is an independent wheel builder in Georgia that stocks it and uses it on the wheels we build.

Not sure? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
