Velocity Standard Road Front Hub
This page covers the Velocity Standard Road Front Hub, a 100mm front or 130mm rear quick-release hub for rim-brake road, touring and fixed-gear bikes.
The Standard Road hub is a little heavier than Velocity's Race Road hub and comes in black rather than the full color range, and in exchange it costs noticeably less. For a tough, serviceable road hub under a Deep V, Chukker, Dyad or A23, it is the sensible choice.
The Velocity Standard Road hub is not sold bare. You choose the rim and the rest of the build in the configurator, and it ships from our shop in Georgia laced, tensioned and trued by hand.
Design and construction
The Standard Road hubshell is machined from aluminum with conventional J-bend flanges. Bearings are sealed cartridge units in common sizes, so replacement years down the line is a ten-minute job with a bearing press. The axle is a quick-release type in 100mm front and 130mm rear spacing.
Velocity USA assembles its hubs at the same Jacksonville, Florida facility where it makes its rims, which is why hub and rim colors match exactly and why the two are designed to be built together.
Because the front Standard has no freehub, it is the hub that asks for the least: a spin of the axle to check the bearings once a season and nothing else. The flanges, bearings and seals are the same as the rear's, the axle converts between the front standards with end caps, and the rotor mounts the same way. Choose it to match a rear of the same model, or on its own for a fork that needs a new front wheel.
How it rides
We build a lot of Standard Road wheels for riders replacing a worn factory wheel on a rim-brake bike who want something that will last.
A front wheel is where you feel a hub least and a build most. With no drive torque to carry, the front Standard can be laced two-cross or even radial on the non-rotor side on a rim-brake bike, which makes a lighter, more direct-feeling wheel; on a disc bike we lace both sides crossed so the rotor's braking torque has spokes to pull against. Either way the front wheel is the one that steers, and a stiff, true front wheel is most of what makes a bike feel precise.

This listing
This is the rim-brake version: QR 5x100mm, 28h, 32h, 36h drilling, about 120g, in black, silver. Same internals and flanges as every other Standard; only the mount and axle differ.
No rotor mount here: this is the rim-brake version of the Standard, which drops the disc flange and the weight that goes with it. It suits rim-brake road, touring and track frames and it is often the lightest hub in the family. Disc-brake frames need one of the disc versions listed separately.
Sizes, fit and compatibility
The Velocity Standard Road Front Hub comes in the drillings listed on this page in 100mm front and 130mm rear quick-release spacing. It takes J-bend spokes in any gauge; we build most Standard Road wheels with DT Competition or Sapim Race spokes and brass nipples.
It pairs with the Velocity Deep V, Chukker, Dyad, A23 and Fusion, and with any rim-brake rim in the catalog that matches its drilling. Give the configurator your bike type and weight; it picks a sensible spoke count and lacing pattern, which you can override.
Put it in a custom wheel
Build a custom wheel around the Velocity Standard Road Front Hub — the link drops you into our Custom Wheel Program with this hub pinned, ready for you to choose the rest. It is set up for road rim brake, track and road single-speed and touring builds.
What Velocity says about testing
Velocity USA offers hubs under its own name for road, gravel, mountain, touring, tandem and track use.
Warranty matches all Velocity products: defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, excluding normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly or maintenance; repair or replacement at Velocity's discretion.

Velocity publishes those results; ProWheelBuilder builds the hub into a wheel and does not test it in a lab.
Building it at ProWheelBuilder
Velocity makes the Standard; ProWheelBuilder is an independent custom wheel builder in Georgia and not the manufacturer. Every Standard wheel we build gets spokes cut from the measured ERD of the rim, staged tensioning with a gauge, stress relief and a final true before it ships.
In the configurator you will only see parts that fit this drilling; combinations that are not made are struck through, and the price updates as you pick.
Warranty
Velocity's warranty. Velocity warrants its rims against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, repairing or replacing at its option. Normal wear, accidents, misuse, improper assembly and poor maintenance are excluded.
ProWheelBuilder. Lace this into a wheel here and the finished wheel gets our own one-year warranty as well as the maker's. For twelve months we replace broken spokes however they broke, and the work on the wheel is on us - truing, re-tensioning, a rebuild where it is needed. If the rim or hub is covered by its manufacturer we put the claim in and chase it; if it is not, we supply an eligible replacement rim or hub at 25% off the current retail price. Carriage both ways is the customer's, and this does not cover wheels built from parts you send in.
Full terms are on our Policies & Warranty page.
Standard Road Front Hub questions
Can I use this hub with disc brakes?
No - this is the rim-brake version and it has no rotor mount at all, which is exactly why it is lighter and simpler. It is the one for a rim-brake road, track or classic frame. A disc frame needs one of the disc versions of this hub, which are listed separately.
Standard Road or Race Road hub?
The Race Road is lighter and comes in colors; the Standard Road is cheaper and black. Both are reliable sealed-bearing hubs.
Is the Standard Road hub disc compatible?
No. It is a rim-brake hub; for disc road choose the Velocity Race disc hub or a Bitex BX 106.
Is the Standard Road hub good for touring?
Yes. Its sealed bearings and 36-hole drilling make it a common choice under a Dyad or Atlas touring wheel.
Which axle spacing does it fit?
QR 5x100mm Front. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or text us.
Does it need special spokes?
No. It takes standard J-bend spokes, which the configurator offers in every gauge and finish we stock.
How long will the wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. The estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out.
