How it works

From parts bin to your doorstep

  1. Pick your parts1

    Pick your parts

Choose a Chromag rim, then the hub, spokes and nipples. The builder only offers parts that fit together.

  2. We measure and prep2

    We measure and prep

Rim and hub are measured here: real ERD, real flange geometry. Spokes are cut to the length your build needs.

  3. Laced by hand3

One builder laces your wheel on the stand. No machine builds, ever.

  4. Tensioned and trued4

Brought up to even tension, stress-relieved, trued round and true, and checked again after it settles.

Specs, pairings and FAQ

Custom hand built wheels with Chromag rims

Chromag designs its parts in Whistler, British Columbia, and tests them in the Coast Mountains, and its rims show it: 30mm inside, tubeless ready, with a bead wall about twice as wide as most rims so a rock strike is spread over more metal.

We lace Chromag rims to the hub of your choice and build the wheel by hand in our Georgia shop: tensioned evenly, trued flat and round, and stress-relieved before it ships. You pick the hub, spoke gauge and color, nipple material and lacing pattern; we make sure the combination is one that can actually be built.

The Chromag rims we build with

Two Chromag rims, both 32 hole, disc only, in 29in and 27.5in. The Phase30 is the trail and all-mountain rim: a 17mm internally braced section, 584g in 29in, in black. The BA30 V2 is Chromag's enduro and downhill rim: a taller 19mm section with an internal bridge against flat spots, 640g in 29in, in black or silver. Both have a fusion-welded, ground seam and a spoke bed angled to each spoke.

Choosing between them comes down to how hard you hit things. Riders who climb as much as they descend take the Phase30; e-bike riders, heavier riders and bike park regulars take the BA30 V2. A BA30 V2 rear with a Phase30 front is a sensible mixed set for an aggressive trail bike.

What to pair with a Chromag rim

A wheel is a system: the rim decides the tire and how much abuse the wheel will take, the hub decides the drivetrain and the axle fit, and the spokes have to suit both. With a 32 hole Chromag rim, a quality 32 hole Boost hub and double-butted spokes make a wheel that stays true through a season of rough riding.

Popular Chromag rim and hub pairings

Hubs our customers build with each Chromag rim, led by the pairings they choose most often in our build records since 2009. Every hub listed is in the builder today in a drilling and brake type that fits; tap a rim to start that build.

Chromag custom wheel questions

Can you build a wheel with a Chromag rim I already own?

Yes. Choose the supply-your-own rim option in the configurator, ship it to us, and we will lace it into a new wheel with new spokes cut to the right length for that exact rim. You pay for the parts you need and the build labor.

How many spokes should a Chromag wheel have?

Chromag makes both rims in 32 hole, which is the right count for trail, enduro and e-bike wheels. The configurator recommends a lacing pattern from your bike type and rider weight.

How long will my Chromag wheel take?

Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. Your estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out, so you know the date before you pay.

Not sure what to pick? Text or leave a voicemail on 470-253-0929 or email info@prowheelbuilder.com — you will be talking to the people who build the wheels.
