Wolf Tooth Hubs Custom Hand Built Wheels

Custom Wolf Tooth Hub Wheels, Built by Hand
Pick a Wolf Tooth hub, choose your rim, spokes and color, and we lace and true the wheel ourselves, one at a time, in our Georgia shop.
Why build your wheel around a Wolf Tooth hub:
- Four hubs to start from: Mountain Boost and Road Gravel, front and rear
- Mountain Boost in 6-bolt disc, Road Gravel in straight-pull centerlock disc
- Rim and hub are measured here, and spokes are cut to your build
- One builder laces your wheel by hand in our Georgia shop

How it works
From parts bin to your doorstep
1Pick your parts
Choose a Wolf Tooth hub, then the rim, spokes and nipples. The builder only offers parts that fit together.
2We measure and prep
Rim and hub are measured here: real ERD, real flange geometry. Spokes are cut to the length your build needs.
3Laced by hand
One builder laces your wheel on the stand. No machine builds, ever.
4Tensioned and trued
Brought up to even tension, stress-relieved, trued round and true, and checked again after it settles.

Custom hand built wheels with Wolf Tooth hubs
Wolf Tooth, the Minnesota company best known for its chainrings and tools, machines its hub shells and axles in-house from 7075-T6 aluminum and builds them around ENVE's INNERDRIVE star ratchet. Replacement parts and service guides are published for every hub, and they carry a five-year warranty.
We lace Wolf Tooth hubs to the rim of your choice and build the wheel by hand in our Georgia shop - tensioned evenly, trued flat and round, and stress-relieved before it ships. Spoke lengths are calculated from the measured flange geometry of your exact hub, not estimated from the model name.
Why Wolf Tooth hubs are different
- A 42mm steel ratchet. Wolf Tooth tried several drive systems and settled on ENVE's INNERDRIVE. It says the large ring diameter lowers the stress on each tooth, so the hub can run more teeth without giving up durability.
- Engagement you can change. Wolf Tooth sells drive rings with 60, 80 and 100 teeth, which work out to 6, 4.5 and 3.6 degrees of travel before the hub picks up. Fewer teeth favor lower drag, more teeth favor quicker pickup, and the rings swap without special tools.
- A low-drag 40T ring for road and gravel. Only the road and gravel hubs take the 40T PRO ring, at 9 degrees. Wolf Tooth reduces its diameter, mills out more material and fits a lighter spring to cut ratchet drag and weight.
- Bearing preload with nothing to adjust. A tuned wave washer between the bearings sets the preload and keeps adjusting as the hub ages, so you only torque the hub to spec. Wolf Tooth says this, along with extra-wide bearing spacing, adds bearing life and lowers drag.
- Straight-pull drilling made for the spoke. On the road and gravel hubs, the spoke holes are shaped to stop straight-pull spokes from twisting and to keep them from touching. Wolf Tooth also keeps spoke lengths consistent across a wheelset, which simplifies carrying a spare.
- Parts sold one at a time. Shells, axles and bearings can all be bought separately, along with ratchet kits and freehub bodies. Wolf Tooth publishes a manual and video guide, and the freehub and ratchets stay in place when you open the hub.
The Wolf Tooth hubs we build with
Wolf Tooth makes both J-bend and straight-pull hubs, and the two are not interchangeable - a straight-pull hub needs straight-pull spokes, full stop. Pick the hub first in the configurator and the spoke list filters itself to whichever head your hub takes, so the mistake is not available to make.
Axle spacing has to match your frame or fork, and it is the single most common thing people get wrong when ordering a wheel. We build Wolf Tooth hubs in 100mm, 110mm, 142mm, 148mm. If you are unsure what your frame takes, measure the inside faces of the dropouts before you order, or email us and we will work it out with you.
What to pair with a Wolf Tooth hub
A wheel is a system: the rim decides the tire and the braking, the hub decides the drivetrain and the axle fit, and the spokes have to suit both. Start from whichever end matters most to you and the configurator will keep the other end compatible.

Wolf Tooth custom wheel questions
Can you build a wheel with a Wolf Tooth hub I already own?
Yes. Choose the supply-your-own hub option in the configurator, ship it to us, and we will lace it into a new wheel with new spokes cut to the right length for that exact hub. You pay for the parts you need and the build labor.
Do Wolf Tooth hubs need special spokes?
The straight-pull models do - they take straight-pull spokes only, and the lacing pattern follows the hub's flange geometry rather than being a separate choice. The configurator filters the spoke list to match the hub as soon as you pick it.
Which axle spacing do I need?
Whatever your frame or fork takes - we build Wolf Tooth hubs in 100mm, 110mm, 142mm, 148mm. Measure between the inside faces of your dropouts if you are unsure, or email us and we will work it out from your bike.
Can a Wolf Tooth hub be relaced into a new rim later?
Yes, and it is one of the better arguments for a quality hub. When the rim wears out or cracks, send us the wheel and we will build the hub into a new rim with new spokes. Spokes are not reused - they have taken a set at the old rim's dimensions.
How long will my Wolf Tooth wheel take?
Build time comes down to parts availability rather than bench time. Your estimated ship date is shown in the configurator before you check out, so you know the date before you pay.
